Hehe, I know. I hadn't even heard of them until a few years ago, and then I just never got round to them. I think Gary has them somewhere, or at least the first one, so I'll have to dig that out!

I really like Pullman's His Dark Materials series too, especially the first book. The daemons concept is just brilliant, and really well explored. Plus the characters are really likeable. It's just a shame the trilogy is let down by that horribly contrived bitter-sweet ending to book 3.

It's a nice idea, but the set-up of it feels way too forced for me. It just didn't ring true.
