So long, Layne Staley

Damn it! Damn it! Damn it! The lead singer of Alice in Chains was found dead in his apartment this morning. A sad day for those of us who still cheer on the home team. Who's left? Pearl Jam? Anyone else?

death, music

Layne Staley held a really special place in my heart. Alice in Chains' "Dirt" was the first alternative album I ever heard and was thereby the gateway into nearly all the music I listen to today. They were of extreme importance to me even if they weren't my favourite band.

I don't know about you, but yesterday was my "Kurt Cobain" day. Because I didn't give a shit when Kurt died, I hadn't really known about Nirvana at the time. But Layne I'm actually going to kind of miss.

Plus Ehren flew away that morning. *sniffle*

When Kurt died, I was not all the familiar with Nirvana, but the guy I was in love with at the time was very into them, so I was sad for his sake. I remember they showed the "Unplugged in NY" video on MTV that weekend, and I think I fell a little bit in love with Kurt and never quite fell out. And they's what it is like to be 15, ladies and gentlemen.

I have never been big into Alice in Chains, but I have definitely quite liked them since I was about 16, especially "Don't Follow" and "Rooster", and, well, they were part of the whole Seattle package, so, yes, I will definitely miss them.
