While we're on the topic of deodorant...

I just happened across some DIY tips from Viva Woman on making your own deodorant with baking soda and water. You can even add a couple drops of essential oil if you want a subtle scent. I'm definitely going to try this. Cheap and natural -- two of my favorite things! :)

I've been thinking on this all day. I do shave the hair under my arms but I have a theory that a gentle wash with soap is all I need to maintain a healthy balance of bacteria in the stubble, and so! I don't use deodorant or antiperspirant. I have no need, even in the height of Adelaide summers, to do so. My sweat doesn't smell unless I'm anxious, nervous or hormonal such as after the birth of my daughter. Or for that matter when I'm getting ill - perhaps because my skin flora are unbalaced? I'd prefer to have a healthy balance rather than be harsh and have to use chemicals to mask it.

This makes a lot of sense to me. I agree that a healthy balance is completely the way to go. If I'm eating well, drinking enough water and keeping my skin clean with gentle products, I really don't feel the need to "mask" anything. I don't even like fragrance. Once in a while I'll spritz myself with lavender spray from a local grower, just to freshen up and get the aromatherapeutic benefits. But beyond that, a natural, clean scent is always preferable to me. :)
