I want only the one bird, as an echo of the girl riding the waves.
I want a more defined space and depth to the drawing, that's why I'm trying to figure out a way to do the sky. I did a small experiment in PhotoShop - the image is posted above as an ETA, please have a look and tell me what you think. :)
i actually think it really works as a blank, because the albatross and the sea are so dramatically defined and variously textured. and i LOVE the waves, i am a little awed by your technique.
I'm not entirely happy with the blank sky. I want a more defined space and depth to the drawing, that's why I'm trying to figure out a way to do the sky. I did a small experiment in PhotoShop - the image is posted above as an ETA, please have a look and tell me what you think. :)

I'm really enjoying experimenting with these layered drawings - it's very interesting to work back and forth between the two inks. :)
The sea looks amazing! I agree with what everyone else has said, the sky looks fine as it is, especially if you're going to add more red sea creatures.
If you really want to add something in the sky, maybe some very high clouds near the top?
Thanks Hill (and hi! <3) - I want a more defined space and depth to the drawing, that's why I'm trying to figure out a way to do the sky. I did a small experiment in PhotoShop, adding some very lightly defined clouds to the upper part of the drawing - the image is posted above as an ETA, please have a look and tell me what you think. :)
I'd also nix adding anything to the sky, but if you want to increase depth you can always try going the texture gradient route and add a row of even smaller waves. Personally I think this picture is wonderful the way it is, I wouldn't change anything; I think your Dragonhill drawing was also a bit too crowded in its finished state - don't be afraid to leave an area blank!
Or maybe if you really really really wanted something on the sky, you could add a strategically placed small sun.
Actually I've already doctored the horizon with further waves - this looked a bit too much like water sloshing around in a tub. I still think it needs more feeling of space, but I'm letting it rest for the moment.
I agree that my Dragonhill drawing ended up too crowded/overworked. I'm just experimenting with these layered ink drawings at the moment and making things up as I go along and there are lots of things I'd do differently if I planned the drawings more precisely, but that may come once I've gathered enough experiences with this technique/expression/style/whatever. This latest one is certainly generating a lot more deliberations along the way. :)
