Maeve's Paper Trail

Nov 18, 2011 17:39

Not that y'all need more of my silly scribblings, but I promised westrider that I'd share this yonks ago.

We have a household D&D campaign, run by my tenant renter serf friend madalchemist, and at one point he asked us for character backgrounds/histories. I wanted a change of pace, so I decided to write mine entirely as correspondence, none of which is to or from the character herself.

This is the second character concept I had, because he nixxed my first without even giving it a chance. Which is ridiculous, because a spirit shaman who's spirit is an orca named 'Shamu' would have been awesome.

Item 1

Branan Tuirean
Patriarch MacTuirean

It is with great joy that I write to inform you of the acceptance of Maeve Tuirean MacTuirean into the novitiate of Moridin. Clan Tuirean has always been known for it's piety, and we of the priesthood bear the highest respect for your family and it's influence in our community. I think your youngest daughter will do well here.

Donnel Ord-Earnach MacCruadh
Low* Cleric of Moridin

*The hierarchy of the dwarves uses language reversed from that of surface dwellers.

Item 2 (some weeks later)

Donnel,

As you are aware, basic mining instruction lays the groundwork for solid theological education. As such, Novice Tuirean's tendency to giggle when discussing common mining terms such as 'butt cleat'* is problematic, not to mention distracting to the rest of the novitiate.

Fiona Clach MacRugha
Master of Novices

*A short, poorly defined vertical cleavage plane in a coal seam, usually at right angles to the long face cleat. Heheh. Cleavage.

Item 3

Torin Foebane
Honorable High Justice
Temple of Tyr

Please accept for training the novice bearing this letter. Novice MacTuirean's dedication to the Gods is without question, and I trust you will be pleasantly surprised by her skills with hammer and axe. The teaching-smiths have agreed that Novice MacTuirean will benefit from time spent on the surface learning ways which are not our own, and I trust such an exchange will strengthen the already strong relationship between the honorable Priests of Tyr and the Smiths of Moridin.

Blessings upon you in your pursuit of our mutual goal, justice.

Low Cleric of Moridin

It's hard to figure out where to break these up for best comedic effect. These are only the first three letters...
