I find your machinelike traits endearing

I've been doing crappy temp work at a metal parts factory. ( Mechanized humanity )

You're working a factory job and getting paid minimum wage?!

Unionize man, unionize!

...I can't believe I just said that.

Eh, if I was actually working for them maybe. But I'm a temp worker, and temp workers universally get the shit end of the stick. A friend of mine once got a two-week temp job in a mine where he was getting $8.50 an hour, surrounded by mine employees who were getting $30 an hour. Just to give you an idea.

Oh, Paul. It's hard to imagine a job less suited for you than that.

I totally know what you mean about people acting machinelike, though. It creeps me out sometimes how much of my behaviour when I'm dealing with customers at Pizza Hut is automatic--the questions I ask, even the tone of voice I use for different things.

I actually really like manual labor for that reason. When I was stocking in a store it was an awesome job because I would basically meditate and then write about it on my breaks. Damn brain-work.

Aw, Paul. It's very true... but still -- factory work is the pits.

...but I find myself getting into routine at work, too, and it's not at all supposed to be mindless.
