The Servant's Master is a Yuletide fic about Thomas Beckett and Henry II that is fabulously evocative and well-written. Slash, but nothing more than PG-13. Go, go read. (I've discovered, apparently, that RPF only bothers me if the people involved are still alive. Go figure.)

Daniel Plainview = A+ (and a tiny, not so well-considered crush)
The score = A+ (I really could go on about the music about as long as about Daniel/the performance)
The rest of the film = B. Or thereabouts. Though honestly, I'll just watch him act for 2 and a half hours with that music behind him, and be happy as a clam.

And I do agree with you about the rest of the movie too. I gave it a B+ overall, because in the arena of modern films, you rarely see films like that and it gets credit for bringing "cinema" back, a la "Taxi Driver".

How strange is that. I mean, with these two, I would argue that I'm looking at them as characters in a play, but it's not true, because these are not Anouilh's Thomas and Henry.
