Went to see Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows the other evening with braidsofdeath, A, reverendjmg and J, the latter's new beau. Verdict: other than the, er, subplot involving a certain female character in the beginning of the film, and a little too much Sherlockovision, I liked it! ( ETA. )

I have a book of X-Men short stories that I bought probably 15 years ago, when a comic book store was having like a 90% sale. The quality is...interesting. Like, no, they're all terrible stories, but they were vivid enough that I remember some of them very clearly, and at least one character mentions something that is now permanently part of my headcanon for me.

Yeah, some of the tie-in novels I've read have influenced my conception of the characters more strongly than actual, canonical comics runs. I think the extra "thinking space" of prose as well as the freedom of writing a story that draws on all the richness of continuity but doesn't have to count in its own right works to the benefit of characterization, etc, even when the writing's not quite up to par. (Although I've managed to stick to novels with at least serviceable and often quite good prose, e.g. Diane Duane's Spider-Trilogy.)

I <3 Stogo. Their ice cream somehow tastes like it's made of actual food ingredients and might actually be good for you, while still being delicious.

Pretty much, yeah! But there are so many good things to eat in New York, I'm not sure I'll have the time to go back. :(
