Things I have learnt from the Nostalgia Critic so far

First of all, context: I can't stop watching Nostalgia Critic and Nostalgia Chick. Very funny, very well observed, occasionally fantastically brutal reviews of old(ish - from the eighties and nineties, mostly) kids tv shows and movies. Most of the texts they look at are legitimately terrible - though often in profoundly creative ways - but some are ( Read more... )

Eee, I love Nostalgia Critic & Nostalgia Chick! I got into that site about a month ago and binge-watched about the whole videography. They're amaaaazing. <3

What really jumped out at me in this entry, however, was your fleeting mention of "Batfink." Good God, that was a terrible show. I would literally run crying from the room whenever it came on ABC Kids. To this day Dad has even this horrible habit: whenever we have a big argument, just at the point when I'm at my most emotionally riled up, of puffing up his chest, holding his arm over his face and saying "your words cannot harm me, my wings are like a shield of steel!" After this I run away crying and confused.

As you can see, I'm slightly traumatised by the mere allusion to Batfink. *rocks in the corner*

YESYESYES! I've watched so many of their videos in the last few days that I've run up my Mum's download allowance and can't do anything interesting online for the next week and it was totally worth it.

I am so sorry. Truly it was a horrifying show, and I should have thought before mentioning it so casually and with so little warning. I've worked up something of a resitance to it through shared commiseration with my mother (who was just as boggled and annoyed by it as me when she was little. Honestly, why would they re-air that?!), but I do hope I've not done you too much harm in my insensitivity. *pats you*

Maybe you could fight your dad off with some super-sonic sonar radar next time?
