FAQs

Welcome to sj_reel everyone. This comm is actually inspired by reel_merlin of the BBC Merlin fandom and I hope everyone would have fun adapting their favourite movies for our boys.

So basic FAQs before we begin:

What is sj_reel all about?
This is challenged-themed community where you adapt movie prompts into fanworks of any kind in the Super Junior RPF fandom.

What kind of movies are there on the prompt list?
The movie prompt list is extensive to give a large variety for everyone to pick and be inspired from. So it's a list of everything from modern/contemporary films to classics, from romantic comedies to drama etc. You get the idea.

Is there a word count limit?
Fanfics have to be at least five thousand (5,000) words but there is no maximum word count.

How closely do I have to stick to the plot of the film?
You can stick as closely or as loosely to the plot of the film as you like. The films are meant as prompts, and you can interpret them however you want to. (NB: When I say loosely, it does mean that the main characters and some minimal plot lines and settings would still exist in the fanwork.)

If I'm an artist, what kind of art can I create?
Manips, drawings, vids, etc. are all encouraged. Supplementary icons are okay but they shouldn't be the main piece created.

Can I choose a movie that's not on the prompt list?
You definitely can! Choose any movie that inspires you. (The only films off limits are those that were posted in previous rounds, so please check the master post tag for ineligible films N/A at this time.) If you'd like to do a movie that's not on the list, simply comment on the sign up post with the movie title, summary, and perhaps an imdb.com link in addition to the usual information. I'll get back to you and add it to the list of prompts (this also includes any foreign and/or indie films).

Can I choose a prompt someone else has already taken?
Unfortunately no. Only one artist and one writer may sign up for each prompt. Collaborations are definitely welcomed.

Can I do both art and fic for the same movie prompt?
You most certainly can! If you think you can have the time to do it, I don't see why not. As mentioned previously, one movie prompt may be claimed by one artist and one writer. So if you're doing both for the same movie prompt, that quota would have been filled.

Can I choose more than one prompt?
No. During the signups you may only claim one prompt. This is to prevent people claiming multiple prompts and never submitting. However, if you submit a draft before the due date you will be able to claim a new prompt. (Even after the sign ups have closed). Also, if you find yourself stuck with your original prompt and wish to switch, you are allowed to as long as your second choice hasn't already been picked by someone else.

Can I co-write with a friend?
Yes, you can. Just make sure to include their information as well in the sign up post. Or email the mod about the participation or drop out of the co-author before/after sign ups.

What about rating and pairings?
All ratings, genres and pairings are allowed. Gen, het and slash/femslash stories are welcomed and encouraged. Mix and match the boys. Anything goes. There are 15 of them. I'm sure you can get creative (The mod does have a soft spot for rare pairings, so if anyone is up to the challenge, please do go ahead ^^).

Can I write a crossover?
Whilst the mod is all in favour of crossovers: for the purposes of this challenge I'm asking that all fan works to be focus on Super Junior.

Does my story need to be betaed?
All stories need to be beta read before posting. A beta signup post will be up about a month after signups.

How does posting work?
When you submit the second draft, you will be given a posting date and membership/posting access to the comm. Fics/artwork must be completed before posting. All fanwork must have a title, author/artist, pairing, rating and warnings/spoilers. Anything else is up to you. I'll post a template on what your headings would be a week before final drafts submission.

Can I post to my own journal/DW/AO3/etc?
Yes! You're welcome to post to the community directly but you're welcome to post to your own journal and link from the comm. However, you still cannot post before your posting date.

Do I need a livejournal to participate?
This is an LJ based challenge and there are no plans to move or mirror on any other journal site. That being said, if you don't have an LJ and would like to participate - e-mail the mods and something can be worked out.

If you have any more questions, leave a comment on this post or email me at sjreel611 [at] gmail [dot] com and I will get back to you!
