disutansu for helping me out with the National Tournament dates and the Japanese school curriculum! (^O^)/ Ah, and I’ve been ficcing for a year now, so I give my thanks to the people who read and regularly read my fics, with or without comments. (^__^) *bows deeply* I am grateful for I won’t be writing this much InuKai without people who love these two awesome fictional boys. ♥
Author’s Note: First of all, a VERY belated happy birthday to our neighborhood sadist genius, Inui Sadaharu, because this fic is really intended for the occasion. But sadly, due to my fail, ahahaha I’m still at the verge of finishing it. XD Also, I decided to cut the story in three parts, because this one shot has already exploded beyond the length of a lengthy one shot. >>;; *never intended to do that, though, but yes I am indeed fail* XDDDD;; Please forgive all the possible sap in it all. I hope no one's stomach overturns too bad and stuff, and I’m sorry for making Inui so contemplative. I also decided to control the happy parts in the bedroom because I want the story to be viewable by the majority. Besides, I’m no good in smut. ^^;;
Enjoy the fic~
In Denial - Part One
Yellowish leaves were calmly swaying with the chilly autumn breeze, each brushing against one another, creating a sound that seemed like whispers in an unknown language. Oftentimes, a leaf or two would fall from those trees and limply flutter towards the ground, only to be cracked and crumbled beneath people’s feet. Most people wouldn’t even bother thinking of those leaves that they passively crush. But they would never understand-they would never understand how horrible it feels to fall and be crushed. It’s as if... those leaves have little or no worth at all.
A dismal expression crept on Inui’s face as he stared at his shoes. Dry brown leaves were pressed between his shoes and the ground. He slowly lifted a foot and blankly gazed at those leaves, with his thoughts at utter loss. How odd it was to be reminded of something so atrocious with such objects alone. But perhaps it was only because he carried the pain and its invisible scars up to this point, even if almost two months had already passed.
Inui then raised his head and took one last good look at the empty tennis courts. He shouldn’t be there for the time being, just like the other seniors. Their last junior high tennis had officially ended, and most likely, his tennis wouldn’t be the same... for the time being.
For the time being-Inui had been using that conditioning too many times. But there were no other options. At this instance, he could only place his hopes on his physical capacity.
Relieving himself with a deep breath, Inui turned and went on his way. He never intended on seeing that place for today anyway.

Under a big Sakura tree, Kaidoh leaned against its trunk and gazed up at the baring branches. It had been all so strange to him, for he could still remember the summer heat from two months ago. Sometimes he would wonder if he’d ever forget that summer-the summer that changed his meaning in so many ways. Other than that reason, he had developed a slight dislike for the tennis hiatus that they’re having.
Unknowingly, he rested his arm over his chest and proceeded to unbutton the coat of his uniform. He’s not used to wearing that much for a whole day. But he needed to wait for someone before leaving the campus.
“Oh, isn’t it a bit early for that, Kaidoh?”
Kaidoh blinked and promptly looked back. As soon as he saw the amusement on Inui’s face, the heat quickly rose up to his face. “I-Inui-senpai!” he exclaimed, glaring up at the senior. “It’s not what you’re thinking!”
“I know,” Inui uttered with a silly chuckle. “If that’s the case, then you shouldn’t sound so defensive, Kaidoh. I might be misled.”
The kouhai gritted his teeth and quickly stood up. Inui had already started his little teasing. Words weren’t enough anymore to express how incredibly annoying Inui would be when he does that. But that’s Inui for him, so Kaidoh couldn’t bring himself to completely hate that trait.
“So... Are we going to my house for real this time, Kaidoh?” Inui asked cheerfully.
“Shut up, senpai!” Kaidoh snapped back, hiding his reddened face as he motioned ahead of Inui. “You were the one who cancelled last time, not me.”
Inui’s smile seemed to have plastered itself on his lips this time. “What’s this? So you were disappointed when I did, Kaidoh?” he replied as he caught up to Kaidoh’s pace.
Poor Kaidoh could only heave an exasperated mental sigh. Answering in any way would only motivate Inui to tease him further, so he kept his silence throughout their short walk. Inui had mutually understood and remained quiet as well, though he kept on reaching for Kaidoh’s hand during those wordless times. With that, Kaidoh allowed himself a calming hiss. Perhaps he truly appreciated Inui for knowing when and when not to talk on his own.
Upon arriving at Inui’s apartment, Kaidoh’s heart raced as waited for Inui by the bedroom window. He was almost motionless until he heard the click of the door lock, and felt Inui’s arms claim him from behind. Closing his eyes, he lowered his head and grasped Inui’s hands. Inui was already breathing against his ear and then proceeded to slowly trail his lips down to his neck. Kaidoh shivered as Inui softly nibbled the nape of his neck, and a soft moan escaped his lips as Inui’s hand crawled inside his shirt while the other gently touched his lips.
“Your lips are quivering, Kaidoh,” whispered Inui as his hand crawled out of Kaidoh’s shirt and started unbuttoning it. Then, he turned Kaidoh to face him and lightly held his cheeks. “I’m sorry for canceling last time,” he hushed as he planted a light kiss on Kaidoh’s forehead.
Kaidoh’s face colored up at once. “I-I said it doesn’t matter now...” he retaliated.
“You didn’t say anything earlier,” Inui replied with a chuckle.
Kaidoh hissed, and much to Inui’s surprise, the kouhai reached for his glasses and slid it off his face, revealing surprised dark green eyes. “How long do you plan on toying with me, senpai?” he said in a roughly subdued voice.
“Sorry,” Inui whispered with almost a grin. “Let’s just say I’m checking the waters first...”
Inui’s fingers trailed across the younger boy’s cheek and, as Kaidoh enfolded his arms around him, Inui pressed his lips on Kaidoh’s-softly and unhesitantly.
A weeks-long separation had finally been satiated.
The city lights outside filtered inside the dim room and had reflected their shadows on the ceiling. With their naked bodies away from strangers’ eyes, Inui silently watched Kaidoh in his slumber. The boy’s soft hissing would touch his ears and make him smile. He couldn’t help brushing Kaidoh’s hair off his sleeping face.
Inui had never been so peaceful in a long while.

At around seven in the evening, Inui was pain- so much pain that he was roused by its intense throbbing inside his chest. His hands gripped the blanket so tightly that it shivered, and his knuckles were almost white. Feebly, he fumbled for the medicine box and a bottle of mineral water under his bed. Inui would usually take that medication in bed. But Kaidoh was there with him and, even though the boy was still fast asleep, Inui couldn’t cancel out the possibility of Kaidoh stirring from that sleep. So he weakly got out of bed and jostled towards the bathroom. After locking the door, he allowed himself to sprawl on the tiled flooring. Beads of sweat were forming and trickling from his head and his breathing were shallower than normal. His heart pounded fast and heavy-as if it would be torn apart any minute. After taking his medication, Inui struggled for anguished breaths as he stayed collapsed on the floor.
No one will be able to fully understand how horrible it is to fall and be crushed.
After a while, the throbbing pain gradually subsided and everything returned to normall, just in time to open the bathroom door for an already anxious Kaidoh. The kouhai had been banging on the bathroom door when he seemed to realize that Inui might just be inside.
Kaidoh stared at Inui with astonished eyes. “What happened to you?!” he snarled. “You went out of bed and never came back until I woke up! And why are you drenched in sweat?!”
“Worrying about me that much, Kaidoh?” Inui said with a faint smile.
“Will you please stop answering me with questions?!” Kaidoh shot back, clenching his fists, despite the slight blush present on his cheeks.
Inui couldn’t contain his hilarity in spite of Kaidoh’s angry face. His little kouhai was just too cute. Finally, he properly answered, “I was still half-asleep, so I didn’t notice that.” He raised a hand and pointed his thumb at the side where a bar of soap laid. “I bumped my head so I rested for a bit. But it’s nothing serious.”
Kaidoh turned and blinked at the object in disbelief. “You... slipped on a bar of soap,” he uttered. Eventually his brows wrinkled in annoyance as he hissed and stormed into the bathroom. “Senpai, your sloppiness is getting dangerous already. Learn to pick up after yourself,” he reproved while snatching the bar of soap and dropping it on the soap dish by the tub.
“I’ll take note of that. Thank you,” Inui simply replied, his gaze following Kaidoh out of the bathroom. Neither of them spoke until Kaidoh looked back at Inui with earnest eyes.
“I need to go home soon, senpai,” Kaidoh began. “Are you sure you’re going to be alright?”
“You seem to always forget that I’ve long been capable of living on my own, Kaidoh,” Inui answered.
Kaidoh lowered his head. “Oh... I guess you’re right,” he uttered.
Inui then motioned over to Kaidoh. “It’s not like I’m forcing you, but you should go home,” he said as he reached for Kaidoh’s shirt and began buttoning it up. Then with a possibly stupid smile, he added, “The longer you stay, the harder it’ll be for me to let you go.”
Kaidoh could only hiss under his breath as he watched Inui’s long, slender fingers at work. Then, he looked up to Inui and said, “I’ll stop by tomorrow after dinner. Will that be okay?”
“Of course. I’ll look forward to it,” Inui replied.
After fixing his uniform for the last time, Kaidoh faced Inui and said, “I’ll be going now. Take care, senpai...” He bowed and took slow and small steps heading toward the front door.
“I love you, Kaidoh,” Inui called out just before Kaidoh was about to disappear behind the door.
The call made Kaidoh pause. “Ah. Same here, senpai,” he uttered back with his eyes shunned and a blush on his cheeks.
The door seemed to close slower thereafter.
Inui stood motionless for a good five minutes-waiting and self-assessing. “…Not tonight,” he finally mumbled to himself. “That’s good, at least.”
