Today was the season opener for The Detroit Lions. The Lions have been a joke in the NFL for a few years now, becoming the first team EVER to have a winless season in the 2008-2009 season. Since then, they made some big drafts and have put together a respectable team, and this year is supposed to be the real pivoting point. It's too early to tell ( Read more... )

Have you ever watched rugby? Those guys do the same crazy shit without padding.

Sounds harsh for your team dude, hope the season picks up for you.

I know right??! (I'm from New Zealand, and just watched a Tri-nations game between NZ and Australia .. we won) ... no pussy padding for our guys. ; )

Which would also explain why quite a few rugby playing men end up in wheelchairs.

Haha your guys end up in wheelchairs while ours end up two hundred pounds overweight and with a high percentage of heart failure because the big fat guys the get for defensive and offensive linemen get scary out of shape when they retire and no longer have football for exercise. Also, take a look at the little video clip I posted in reply above.

Haha yeah, I know rugby is even crazier. There are a lot of sensitive types who want to complain about anything where people get hurt -- that's why I wonder about football -- not that it's any more violent, or AS violent as rugby. : ) Of course, there are particularly violent times like when one of our guys lost his focus and did this (wait for the slow motion replay):

That may be as that may be, but it's terrible when the refs do something like that. Especially when it turns out they're wrong.

THAT WAS THE WORST MISSED CALL I have ever seen in sports and I have seen a lot of missed/bad calls. That was CLEARLY a TD made by Calvin Johnson. he had control of the football and planted 2 feet into the end zone for the game win.

If you ask me, the Lions got SCREWED, anyone can see that it was a TD.

Thank you. Yeah, that seems to be the general consensus. Even Bears fans think it was a touchdown. The experts are saying it's a case of applying a rule to a play that that particular rule wasn't meant for, and unfortunately, the refs decided to follow that rule word for word instead of using common sense and their eyes. So frustrating.

and yet the play with Wes Walker was a TD while the one with Calvin Johnson wasn't a TD?

Makes no sense at all to me.

that was an AWFUL call. i'll give you that. these refs we got need to go back to school. there are all these weird-ass loopholes they tryin to throw in where this applies when this is present and this doesn't count when number 72 is on the field but it's cool when 38 is downfiend from 14. maan, i ain't got time for that. PLAY THE GAME. if they catch it and they in the box, it's a damn touchdown.
there are some teams refs just seem to have it in for. it's bad.
the USF/UF game satruday had some equally bad calls. not that i expected USF to win, but woah it got ugly quick.

THANK YOU. Yeah, there's been a crazy amount of bad calls lately. We put instant replay to use so we'd get the calls right. Too bad the spineless refs are afraid to use judgment instead of following a questionable rule to the letter when it was meant for a different type of play altogether. Ugh. And penalties are being called for EVERYTHING -- it's almost against the rules to tackle the quarterback at all, among other things. Let them play, for Christ's sake!

Oy indeed. I'd never heard of her before, but it looks like she's made a name for herself and I can see how ( ... )
