The Movies Might Be Less Than Excellent...

...but the Batman Forever and Batman & Robin soundtracks contain some of my favorite music of the '90s and even spawned one of the cooler music videos of the time. Thanks to howlin_wolf_66 for bringing up the first vid and inspiring this entry - I hadn't seen it in years.

There's more good music where that came from on both soundtracks, but I decided stick ( Read more... )

Cool; I didn't know that The Smashing Pumpkins were on the Batman & Robin soundtrack - although, to be fair, I did try to block out most everything associated with that movie! :-)

I've always loved that Pumpkins track and Billy Corgan has some interesting things to say about it here (scroll down just a touch to the "Song" heading). Still, the remixed version, "The Beginning is the End is the Beginning", also on the Batman & Robin soundtrack made even a bigger splash thanks to the Watchmen trailer a few years ago. I was shocked to hear that song being used almost a decade after it was released, but it's perfect and very powerful in the trailer...

I can't blame you at all for blocking out everything associated with Batman & Robin, but I also have the soundtrack to thank for introducing me to one of my very favorite bands in the world ever, Moloko, who's "Fun For Me" was featured. And I never would have heard of them otherwise, I'm pretty sure. The beautiful and talented Roisin Murphy now has a successful solo career (in Europe if not so much in the U.S.).

Love that; my favourite Moloko song is "Familiar Feeling":

Great song. I didn't care for the album version of this song as much, but I absolutely love this live version and performance. It was upon seeing this that Roisin skyrocketed to the top of my Sexiest Women in Music list. : )

I've never been familiar with the Batman Forever soundtrack but I can say I'd be very happy to never have to hear Kiss From a Rose ever again. Even though I'm not a fan of the albums that U3 put out in the '90s I do like their song for the movie.

Batman & Robin though, I did love that soundtrack. I had it too. I liked pretty much every track. Meshell's Poison Ivy, Moloko, Underworld - ooh, but Breed was my favourite song.

Haha I've always been a Seal fan and I bet my best friend $5 that "Kiss From A Rose" would be a number one hit when the actual Seal album came out a year or so before the movie. After several months, we figured I lost the bet and I paid up. Then it was released months or even a year later as the love song from the movie and stayed at number one here for like five weeks. I got sick to death of the song, too, but at least I won. And I still brag about it. ; )

Ah, yes, "Breed"! It's been a while and that is a great song. And speaking of great alternative rock songs sung by women featured on not-so-great sequel movie soundtracks of the '90s, here's my favorite track from the Crow: City of Angels.

I couldn't find a music video, but the live performance is pretty sweet. And there are two of them because the shocking pink outfit in the second just had to be seen even though the sound quality is worse. : )

Great move on the bet! I've never made bets only because I figure I'd lose more often than not, and who actually brags about losing? LOL

Great song! I do find it amusing that in the second live video the bright pink outfit is surrounded by men in black suits. Sure stands out. :D

I generally don't make bets with actual money involved because I never have enough money to risk it.

Haha I was admiring the contrast between the pink and the black, too. : )
