annuscka, did you notice the hosts speaking a few words of Swedish? *g*
:D I didn't, actually, because I couldn't hear a word the hosts were saying, but great kudos to them!
Which brings me to: Santa Claus. *facepalm* Please, never again! *headdesk* Muhahaa... it was kind of lame, that.
I'm surprised Sweden did so badly, though :( I think it's a fun song and they had been talked of as possible winners, but then they were 18th. Blaah.
I'm not surprised, really, but it's too bad - they would've deserved to be higher up. The rest of the west can go and re-think their entries, though...
And lol, I can't understand how anyone can complain that Scandinavia/Eastern Europe/whatever always votes for each other, because EVERYONE DOES VOTE FOR THEIR NEIGHBOURS. Seriously. And therefore complaining is very, very hypocritical.I.KNOW!! I giggled so much when Denmark and Norway threw 12s at Sweden, Ireland at the UK... Come on, people! :D (but now the bitching is "we have to, because else the east takes oooover!! Oh noes. Re-write your own
( ... )
But I'm glad Ireland and UK did so badly. Horrible songs, they had.
HEY! Scooch were a helluva lot better than that crappy hot-pink French entry, and Armenia's red trees, and that crappy one with the shadow people - we totally deserved more points. And Ireland was just nervous.
The whole thing about the block voting - it is realllllly annoying! Because it's supposed to be a song contest, not a geography test, and we were watching it last night and predicting *every single* one, except the random ones, like Malta giving us 12 (WTF was that all about?)
And Western Europe doesn't vote geographically - France/Belgium/Holland/Spain/Ireland don't vote UK, and we don't vote for them. So why does the Scandanavian block and the Eastern block have to do it?
HEY! Scooch were a helluva lot better than... But you see, for us it's not Scooch - it's a weird stewardess song.
And Western Europe doesn't vote geographically - France/Belgium/Holland/Spain/Ireland don't vote UK, and we don't vote for them. So why does the Scandanavian block and the Eastern block have to do it? Uh, except when Ireland gave you 7 points. I think that for a song to win, it has to be good, getting only neighbours votes isn't enough. For example Finland gave 12 points to Serbia, so it's not only with their neighbours votes that they won. ;) And last year we didn't win because our "friends" voted for us but because practically everyone did - for the good show. Countries get a few consolation points from the neighbours, but they don't win with it. So I don't see what's the big deal, because only winning matters - for you, anyway, getting an automatic entry to the final every year...
LOL. Please, don't mistake that to us it's also the weird stewardess song. Scooch are a laughing stock, but it still doesn't change the fact that they were shocking, but better than some of the others. I don't think they should have won, not at all! But I think they deserved more than they got.
Yeah, but we didn't vote for them! And they didn't give us 12! I don't think you can deny that the Easter bloc always vote for each other and that the balance is definitely tipped in their favour. Finland winning last year was great, because the song was so insane that it broke through that voting. But when you sit there watching and go, Ok Belarus will vote... Russia 12, and they did. And Montenegro will give... Serbia 12, and they did. And Iceland will give... Finland 12, and they did - it all gets pretty pointless. You don't even need the acts, really. It's like Terry always says, "We won the Cold War but we lost the Eurovision."
And heh. You should be glad we get automatic entry, otherwise the whole thing would go under.
And lol, I can't understand how anyone can complain that Scandinavia/Eastern Europe/whatever always votes for each other, because EVERYONE DOES VOTE FOR THEIR NEIGHBOURS. Seriously. And therefore complaining is very, very hypocritical. ..if you have a lot of neighbours, yes. :P According to some research, the only voting block Holland is part of, is the Benelux block. ¬¬
..if you have a lot of neighbours, yes. :P But like I said to alexia75 above, it's not possible to win with just neighbours votes, they're consolation points, you need support from other countries as well to win! So I don't see what's the big deal, at all.
The newspaper today was HILARIOUS. There was lots of stuff about Eurovision. Half the articles where like 'OMG! Soooo unfair!', and the other half was like 'STOP WHINING. If you want to win, enter a better song' (..they do have a point there. Our songs suck liek woah Every. Single. Year. Not to mention the horrible acts. *eyeroll*). Apparently 89% of the Dutch population agrees that Holland should boycot Eurovision, LOL. *is very amused*
It's a pity really that all the member countries of any possible "Western block" have basically hated each other (in a polite way) for about 400 years.
