Crunch. Ouch. Truck No More.

So, twelve years after learning to drive stick shift, I have rolled another truck. This one didn't fare as well as the last one, and it wasn't Bevvy. It was A's truck. Damn. But I probably would'nt have been so lucky in Bevvy ( Read more... )

Holy Hell! Glad to year you didn't get hurt too bad. I know it's not much, but at least every bad thing that happens is a good story later, as long as no one gets too hurt.

Thanks. It will be a good story to tell in the future, and the more I think about it the luckier I feel.

After I totaled my (used, but new to me (owned for 1 week!)) Honda on Christmas Eve a few years ago, I was a fucking mess. I couldn't drive at all for months. It took me much longer to get on the highway. This wasn't the first time I had totalled a car, either, and it seems that over the years, the driving-related hangups have aggregated.

At this point, I'm praying daily for the satellite-controlled personal dirigibles. Top that for weird.

I'm happy you're safe, by the way. Be good to yourself.

Thanks for the good wishes; I sympathize completely with the need for dirigibles. I was forced by circumstance to drive Bevvy the very next day, but I survived by singing at the top of my lungs for 45 minutes during the commute.

Since then I have thought much about motor vehicles. At the dawn of the automobile, people used to believe men would go insane if they experienced speeds faster than 30mph. In many ways I think we have gone mad. When did the need to do something FASTER override the need to do it safely?

The thing is, we're addicted to having personal transportation. And we're lazy. I've spent a lot of time thinking up schemes to get people around more safely and easily. The most viable one so far is fully automatic electric cars. But those will go over in the Midwest like a lead airship.
