Anakin was back in his office (the holiday decorations were gone, thank you very much), tinkering with an overly complicated baby monitor.

For a baby who wouldn't be born for months. Anakin was getting neurotic early.

The door was open.

Ben had been dreading this meeting all week, but he'd promised his father.

So there he was, knocking on the door jamb.

"Granddad?"

The glare Ben shot him wouldn't have looked out of place on Anakin's face. "Not the first time I've killed someone," he said icily. "It's not a big deal."

"It's always a big deal," Anakin countered. "And if you don't believe that, I have some work to do with you."

Ben sighed. "I'm not going to cry about it," he told Anakin. "It was a mistake. It happened. I'm learning and moving on."

Ben sounded so much like Jaina that Anakin winced. "What did you move on into?" he asked.

"I went aboard the Anakin Solo," Ben said. "Looking back, I don't think Jacen believed my sincerity even then, but he let me come back." He shrugged. "Probably to see what I'd do."

Anakin's heart dropped somewhere near his toes. "Jacen did this to you," he breathed as all of the blood rushed from his face.

Ben sunk into his chair, but didn't deny it.

Anakin would've quite happily ripped that second grandson of his into pieces right then.

His desk creaked again under the pressure he was putting on it. "Okay," Anakin said, remembering to breathe. "You're here. What do you want me to do?"

"Dad sent me to you," Ben admitted finally. "Thinks if anyone knows about...fighting the dark side...it'd be you."

Anakin stared at Ben for a long moment, putting things together. "How close did you come?" he asked quietly, making an educated guess.

Ben took a deep, shuddery breath. "Close enough to scare Dad," he whispered. "I had the lightsaber out. I wanted it over."

Anakin squeezed his eyes closed. "Okay," he said. "Okay. I'm not losing another member of my family to this, all right? You're going to come in here every week, and you're going to work until you almost hate me. But we're going to get you past this."

That didn't sound promising, but Ben nodded anyway. "Let's get started, then."
