Office hours [all day Saturday]

Anakin had a bad feeling about today.

It hadn't been improved by listening to the radio last night.

So there he was in his office (not that he was avoiding his in-laws, but knowing the terrain was important and they could damn well come to him), banging hard on something made of metal ( Read more... )

Oh yeah. Anakin was in a brilliant mood.

Anakin laughed. "Are you going to poke holes in him?" he asked.

"Only if he gives me reason to." Alanna said grumpily, not mentioning that she had already promised to not stab. "I'm trying to do the 'trust your daughter's judgment' thing." It would be easier if her first husband hadn't been a crow. Alanna didn't add.

"Don't do that," Anakin replied. "They marry Han Solo that way."

"...I think I hit him on the head once." Alanna said after a very, very long pause.

"Should've hit him harder," Anakin said. "Jaina tells me this is a different Han. I don't really care."

"I'm fairly sure he was unconscious after getting hit." Alanna said, trying to remember. "I'd complain about Aly's choice in men, but that would fall under 'revealing the future', sadly. Let's just leave it at the fact that there is reason to complain."

"There always is," Anakin commented. "One Luke will marry an assassin. Bet you anything she tried to kill him. My kids have crap taste."

River had given him clear instructions on which teachers to talk to, and Anakin Skywalker was appearantly not only teaching her Ethics, but also how to better control her psychic abilities.

Simon stopped in the doorway. "Professor Skywalker? My name is Simon Tam, River is my sister."

Anakin stopped banging immediately and gave Simon a small smile. "She's told me much about you," he said, nodding his head. "Welcome to Fandom."

"Thank you." Simon took that as an invitation to enter the room, throwing a curious glance at whatever it was that had made that noise. "She's told me about you, too. I'm happy to hear someone can teach her to better control her abilities." The last sentence was added quietly.

"I'm working on a speeder bike," Anakin said with a slightly sheepish smile, putting the piece of metal away and wiping off his hands.

"River is a very special girl," he continued. "I'm glad to help. With so many abilities running loose around this school, it can get very loud inside your head for psychics. I know I used to feel like the school's emotional weather barometer before I learned how to block everyone out."

"Speeder bike?" Simon chuckled. "Perhaps hide it from my sister once it's finished."

He blinked a little at Anakin's second comment. "You have... the same abilities?" A stupid question, he told himself. How else would he be able to teach River?

Anakin grinned. "I'd prefer the squirrels not help me to build this, either. It's a matter of pride."

He turned back to the more important topic. "I have some of the same abilities as River, yes," he said with a smaller smile. "I've also been trained since I was nine years old in the use of them. I'm just...catching River up on some of the possibilities and limits to what she can do."

"The squirrels, yes." Simon looked amused. "I've never been sure what to make of that."

Then he turned serious. "I hope your training was less experimental and done with more concern for the wellbeings of the students."

Anakin nodded. "Very much so. The Jedi--that's what my Order is called--have been around a thousand generations. What was done to River is an abomination."

Anakin put enough venom in that last word to make it practically crackle.
