Anakin's room, 33 Apocalypse Avenue [evening]

Apr 19, 2007 17:37

Anakin walked into his room from a long day moping brooding hiding doing terribly important yet strangely nebulous things, slowly shut the door and slid down it until he rested on the ground with his head down on his knees.

He was 43 years old today.

He felt much, much older.

He wasn't alone for long... )

Obi-wan snorted. "Anakin, there's benefit in recognizing the limits of your wisdom and then there's building a coffin and nailing yourself into it. But then you never did do anything by halves."

Which was sort of an answer, if not a terribly complete one. He continued. "Every student is hard in their own way. You learned quickly, easily. You learned too easily, I think -- everything except patience, which I never learned how to teach you."

Something tight had uncoiled permanently in Anakin's stomach. "Because it comes so naturally to you, Master," he said, being completely honest with Obi-Wan for the first time, well, ever. "I don't think you can teach something that's just part of who you are."

A brief look of surprise flashed across Obi-Wan's face before he dropped his gaze. "Which would explain why you never succeeded in teaching me the pleasures of flying like a crazed Jawa."

Anakin's smile broadened. "I still say you're missing out," he teased gently.

Then he remembered the whole "not alive any more" thing and dropped his gaze, feeling guilty all over again.
