Office hours [all day]

Anakin hadn't slept in a couple of days.

Not that this was so terribly unusual for him since coming back from his galaxy, but today the shadows under his eyes were particularly noticeable.

He was flipping absently through a magazine that was six months old and fighting to stay awake.

The door was open.

Now Anakin was engaged in the fascinating game of "Stare at the Wall."

Anakin smiled and tried to look more awake than he was. "I'm fine," he said. "You ready to get started?"

Dean took a deep breath and nodded. "Yeah."

Anakin closed his eyes and reached out towards Dean's mind, taking it slowly to see how much Dean had remembered from their last lesson.

Dean had been practicing the imagery of the rubber wall he'd come up with in their first lesson and it came to him a lot faster and with more detail than before.

Obviously he hadn't been able to test it against actual attacks though, so he was more than a bit nervous as he waited for Anakin to do just that.

Anakin was tired, so there wasn't the normal sharpness to his attack, but it was still obvious he meant business as he went after a poorly protected memory.

Was it OK to drop into his office hours even if she wasn't one of his students? Rikku knocked nervously on the door, hoping that she wasn't interrupting anything important. Clearly she didn't know about the fascinating game of Stare At the Wall.

Rikku opened the door and peeked her head around. "Uh, hi. Are you Professor Skywalker?"

She fussed with her hair. "I, uh. I'm not one of your students or anything. I mean, I'm guessing you knew that. I just ... wanted to come in and talk to you. Uh. If that's okay?"

Anakin smiled. "It's totally fine." He waved a hand towards a chair. "What's your name?"

"I'm Rikku," she said, with a little bounce of a wave. She shut the door behind her and took the seat he gestured to. "I, uh, I'm kinda a friend of Luke's?"

She hoped that wasn't presumptuous, as they'd only talked once or twice, but once you share "I saved the world and it sucked" stories with someone, you were sorta past the "acquaintance" point.

Anakin's smile broadened. "Any friend of my son's is more than welcome here. How can I help you?"

Rikku smiled back. "Really? Great! I mean, thanks! Ask him about the club we're starting. Well, maybe starting."

She gestured vaguely. "He, uh. I guess it's ... he said it would be okay to come talk to you, I mean it was his idea? Because we were talking about ... worlds and governments and religions, and he said you know more about it than he does. The religion-thing he has? The Jedi?"

Anakin stiffened his back. "Luke told you to talk to me about the Jedi," he repeated. He let out a small sigh. "What would you like to know?"

Rikku noticed the slight tension. "I'm ... sorry? Is that rude? I just ..."

She stared down at her hands. "Where I'm from, it's sort of. I don't believe in it. Like, any of it. It's just ... they used it, to control people, and it was all lies, so ..."

She shook her head. "I don't know what I'm trying to ask. Sorry."

Anakin waved it off. "It's fine," he soothed. "What don't you believe in?" he asked. "The Force? Organized religion?" he smiled. "I'm assuming you don't have Jedi."
