I know in my bones that teachers have the biggest value/pay discrepancy on the face of the earth. I know I do not have the skills, and am everlastingly grateful for those who do. I owe so much to the perceptive teachers who worked with G#2 though his career and helped him find his way to be successful.

It was those who did not conform who were able to help my non-conformer to navigate the world of the rigid conformists. I am certain that you will help the next generation of those who will shape the future because the same old thing just won't cut it anymore.

You're doing the right thing because you're you. Any number of other people would hate it. Other people would focus on the problems they mentioned. But they're not you. This is one way you can make a genuine difference to kids. You can't change the system they're stuck in, but having one teacher around who understands can be a pretty powerful anchor.

I suppose you would probably assume my agreement with what you have to say, and you'd be spot on.

Teaching has a definite appeal for me and I sometimes tell myself I may it take up towards the end of my career when I'm pretty set for retirement, I don't need/care about the money, and I am secure enough to not care about the stupidities.

Or maybe I'll just home school then. Meh.
