A pair of links...

...For those of you who like to save fanfiction onto your e-readers. Dunno how well known these are, but I've found them helpful so... spreading the love, I guess?

The first is this nifty little program called Calibre. It will take certain formats and convert them to formats your e-reader can see, such as going from rtf to epub, or to kindle's file ( Read more... )

I think I love you now. I use my eReader almost exclusively for fanfiction. the copy/past of massive fics or was a pain.

I did learn to convert them on Microsoft word, but the sometimes, the formating got a little wonky: to much space between paragraphs, or a huge wall of text.

Thank You

Same here, lol. Think I've got two actual, bought and paid for published books on there. And I know what you mean! Lately I've been trying to save all of my favorites. It's a pretty big task, lol.

Unfortunately LJ fic still involves a lot of copy/pasting, but the stuff on ffnet is now a breeze.

I don't have an eReader (yet) but I've been thinking of getting one ever since I bought my mother a Kindle for Xmas. You can read fanfiction on them, you say? And these links right here will help me convert fanfics to the correct format instantly? I am intrigued! (I made a pdf or two of my fics for a reader who asked, and I've wanted to do more, but it's SO time consuming! This sounds much better.)

Yes, to both! :D (And if you wind up getting an actual Kindle you will need to convert to Kindle's file type or PDF; they won't read any others.) The one that goes Straight to epub from ffnet is about as close to instant as it gets. Unfortunately getting fic off LJ still involves a lot of copy/pasting.

I've never tried converting anything to PDF. It sure sounds like a lot of work.

*cough* After Atlantis may have been one of the first stories I converted after downloading Calibre.

After Atlantis is one of the ones I pdf'ed, but I did it around chapter 25 and I've made corrections and revisions to the earlier chapters since, in addition to adding new ones. I'd like to someday do a finalized version, maybe with naggingfishwife's lovely TB/WJ pic as a cover (assuming she'd give her permission for that) but lately I can't even find time to get the rest of the chapters up on AOx3, lol.
