So when I'm bored on my commute, or bored in a meeting, or just bored, one of my means of entertaining myself is the Giant Crossover In My Head.  The Giant Crossover In My Head involves taking all the characters I like, regardless of fandom, and transporting them to Ivalice.  (I like Ivalice.)  Hence, for instance, Elena in the Archadian secret

Exactly. :D The others jaunt around Ivalice, doing dirty deeds, and Gale is the one who makes sure they stay profitable and keep the Embryon in repairs and remember to sell their goods and all that stuff. ...I don't know why he sticks around with the rest; I assume there must be some past history where he feels loyalty to the rest of them, even as he sighs and buries his head in his hands when Heat blows an important deal by having a terrible temper or Serph pisses off some local leader by being unbelievably taciturn.
