I just had to drop in on this one, even late. Because this...
...this was awful.
Don't get me wrong. This was awful in the good way, the "that was an incredible read" kind of way. But still, it was awful. Stockholm syndrome is usually presented in a sort of sympathetic light in fiction, and it was given that same treatment here in some ways. But in other ways it most certainly was not, most notably in the desolation of Ashe's fate.
She never budges an inch, never gives ground in her "negotiations" with Drace. And it costs her. It costs her dearly. She spends weeks, months, in the same room, eating bread and porridge, sleeping with fleas, speaking to exactly one person. You can see the edges of her psyche slowly wear away, until she comes to view that person as the whole of her existance. She actually comes to desire her--her!--as a lover, or possibly even love her. You really do have to feel for Ashe in this situation...particularly as it doesn't end by the end of the fic ( ... )
