Hey, I just had a few things to say! First, this looks like it'll be a pretty cool game, so good luck.

Second, the table width being hardcoded at 800 pixels is screen-breaking for people browsing at smaller resolutions or people using the highly popular LJ Modern custom skin. Is there any way you could change it to read width="100%" or something similar?

Third! I just wanted to let you know that in popular usage, it's preferred to say trans woman and trans man, rather than transwoman and transman. It's a subtle difference, but the former is using an adjective to modify "woman" and "man", while the latter is basically identifying them as separate from the category of "woman" and "man".

Sorry if you weren't expecting comments so soon, but someone linked this from anoncomm.

Thanks for the interest!

Using width="100%" seems to work for the table, so thanks for that tip, as well.

As for the other concern, I was going by what I've seen used by my friends (both trans and cis), but they're not necessarily a representative sample, so I'll change it if it's likely to bother other people.

Because your suggestion pages aren't up, and I don't want to forget about it... ultradude November 12 2010, 00:12:38 UTC
Thought on apps - maybe make it a minimum word count instead of a paragraph count? That runs the risk of a giant WALL OF TEXT, so maybe make a general 'no wall of text rule' and just keep it subjective as to whether or not a mod wants to tell the person to split it up.

Word counts tend to feel more flexible for a grammar nazi who knows when new paragraphs should start and likes adhering to that, and accommodates writing styles a little better.

There's even a copy and paste word counter you can use if you're typing in your browser, so I'd like to know if you could change it or maybe even ask around and see what everyone prefers - I'm sure plenty of people favor one or the other.

How the fuck did I forget to finish typing half a sentence the first time...

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you--

We don't want to impose hard limits involving wordcount on potential players, but at the same time you're right about running the risk of wall-of-text syndrome, so I added a bit in the application guidelines about the paragraphs being reasonably sized. It doesn't have to be exactly four paragraphs, of course; if someone wants to write three long paragraphs and two short ones for proper emphasis, that's fine too.

Is there an age limit on the character or are they aged up upon arriving?

Added a couple sections to the FAQ on that:

What's up with age limits on characters?
Currently this game does not have a hard and fast age limit for its characters. Different canons handle romance in ways appropriate to different age groups; in some series, eleven-year-olds fall in love and date. However, if you do apply for a younger character, keep in mind that her opportunities for romantic CR will be restricted to tamer fluff and limited to her age group. Mods will monitor whether players are inappropriately sexualizing characters in pre- and early adolescence, so keep it clean.

What about canons where prepubescent characters are sexualized?
Not allowed. Sorry, we don't want to get banned.

Hey there!

Are canon AUs allowed? As in, in the main canon these characters are male, however the author has drawn a series of pictures where the characters are female, but he's stated that they are different characters and not just genderswapped males.

If there's actual canon for these AUs, such as episodes or comic strips, then they're acceptable. If there's just a picture and a description, that would fall under the category of "not enough canon," sorry.

For example, a series like Evangelion has multiple AUs that are actually made and published as manga or movies; if a character were male in the original but female in one of these AUs, she would be appable from the AU. If a comic artist did a bonus in one issue where the characters were all drawn genderswapped and penciled in some notes on their new characters, they would not be appable (but the original male version would be appable once those apps open).

Well, it's Hetalia, so national stereotypes also characterize them but haha their pictures and tiny comic strips aren't really enough, so thank you!

We're actually discussing this at the moment, so I'll get back to you on it.

Just to let you know, the Reserves link on the application page leads back to the application page.
