My faith in humanity is restored

My sister, her husband, and their two kids are in town this weekend. We went out to dinner tonight, and when we were walking into the restaurant, who should we run into but my cousin, his wife, and their baby daughter. This is one of my very dear cousins that I grew up with, and I regard him as a brother. We keep in touch through cards and ( Read more... )

That is weird. You would think that when your aunt cut the rest of your family out of her life, they would realise that if she could cut them off for no reason, she might have done the same to her husband. But I guess people don't like to admit they were wrong.

Your Uncle David does sound cool, but I guess he does have reason to be grateful to you and your dad. He is probably glad that at least somebody in your family did not just believe your aunt.

Yeah, and my aunt's kind of become a joke in the family now. They don't hesitate to make cracks about her and what a weirdo she is. You'd think they'd realize that maybe not everything she said was true.

They make nasty jokes about David too, which really annoys me. When my dad mentioned that he was going to David for some dental work, Natalie (of course), said, "You were really that desperate for a dentist?" Yeah, you know what? He's a good dentist. And that should kind of be your priority when looking for any kind of medical professional - who's going to do the best job. You don't need the dentist, and you've never been to him to make that kind of a decision, so why don't you shut the fuck up?

And yeah, he's just awesome. I remember the first time we went to him for dental work was when I had my wisdom teeth out. This was about ten years after the divorce, and he seemed absolutely flabbergasted that we would go to him. He said, "Thank you for bringing her here and trusting me with her." :)

Why doesn't it surprise me that it'd be Natalie who'd say that?

And aw, that comment about trusting him with you is so sweet.

And that's what important. We choose our own family. My friends are mine. Fair enough, I share DNA with my blood-relatives, but they're not my family. A family is something that loves you. And something you love and respect in return.

I love the good majority of my blood relatives, and I consider them family, but there's always a few that I really don't. I do have some awesome friends that I consider family as well, so they more than make up for it :)
