James wouldn't have wanted you to be a killer. He wouldn't have wanted that for either of us.

He also wouldn't have wanted you to die for him, mate.

James can't make decisions. He's dead.

He wanted me to be the Secret-Keeper. Me. Which means that yes, he did want me to die for him, if it came to that. And I would have been happy to do so.

I buggered everything up so, so much. I can't.

No, mate. He knew you'd go into hiding afterwards, a string of secret keepers. You'd be one for them, he'd be one for you, or I would. Someone would.

We just didn't know that Peter was selling our secrets for a year before it happened.

If Voldemort showed up looking for the location, there would be no afterward, Moony. You know that.

I...I was afraid he'd find what he was looking for, whether or not I wanted him to.

I would kill the rat. I know that disappoints you, but I would do it. I would make him suffer first. It's what he deserves. Think of all the good people who died because of him.

It doesn't change anything. I agree.

[Rhade understands this so much.]

Are you an inmate?

If so, and you want to leave, are you going to pretend to change so you can?

I think people have and it doesn't work. Or else I would. Most people ask me why I'm not a warden, anyway.

My best mate couldn't believe I was an inmate when he showed up here.

So, what are you going to do? If people think you're a warden, you're obviously not a nutter. Do you feel like someone else has the right to tell you you should change?

It makes the Wardens feel important to think that they can control us, can change us. But manipulative conversations and threats of punishment don't really do much to inspire change. I have been here far longer than you, and I would still slaughter my murderers and their kind without a second thought. Doubtless this would be labeled as "evil" by our keepers, but I call it "choosing not to be a victim".

I think if someone deserves to die, he deserves to die. I'm not going to pretend otherwise to make them feel better.

There's nothing wrong with being loyal, Sirius, and wanting to die for your mate isn't a crime. Being a loyal friend and being an inmate aren't connected in any way.

What was the conversation that brought all this on?

It wasn't just the conversation. I don't know. I don't want to talk about it.

Fine. Good. We don't have to talk about it.

Want to watch a film? You need to see James Bond.

I'd guess they don't want us to be particularly suicidal. [But it comes out dryly, because he'd kill Frank if he ever cam here, too.]

It would be worth dying a few times if I got to tear that rat into a few thousand pieces first.

Who's this rat?

sirius_is_a_dog August 8 2011, 23:15:41 UTC
He betrayed my best friend, who was his best friend. He sold out James and Lily to the Dark Lord, who murdered them. When I confronted him, he set off an explosion that killed him and a dozen or so muggles. This all lead to a nice, fat life sentence for me in the wizarding prison.

I call him the rat because he is a rat. Literally. He's an Animagus and his form is a rat. Yet we never put it together. Bloody bunch of idiots we were.
