30 Days of Videogames

Holy fucking shit God Hard is hard.

Day 22 - A game sequel which disappointed you.

I know what you're thinking. There's no way this isn't DMC2.

And lemme tell you, bland-open-space, Matrix knockoff, not-really-having-any-fun Dante is high on my list of disappointment sequels.

This runs even deeper than that, though.

Woo, tale of woe time! )

...I dunno, man.

The VP2 grunts do have stories and profiles, though. Pretty sure they had unique voices, too. Game also played even better than VP1 from where I stood.

Really, the only things that angered me were the horrible (HORRIBLE) soundtrack and lack of unique supers for the grunts. But as far as sequels go-

-y'know what? Fuck it. My barometer's forever destroyed by Sonic 2006. ^^;

They had different configurations of move selections from a shared list, because it's a 3D game. And there were about as many voices as your average Soul Calibur create-a-character mode. Although I'll concede the story depth issue cuz it looks like it was Arcadia/Valkyria style (hidden in profile/event dialogue/epilogue). I just couldn't help but miss the enjoyment of watching a character's (last) day in the spotlight, then immediately trying them out to see what they look like in a fight.

The other thing is, my lingering memory of VP2 is watching my roommate reset the level a few times because he didn't get a rare drop Einherjar from that level's relic. It just didn't feel right to have character introduction reduced to treasure chest RNG.
