Hey guys!
Just a couple event and plot notices!
1. We wanted to give you guys a heads up that as of the start of next month, there's going to be a lot of heavy world-over plot and events going on. We've finally found a way to bring about the more organized plot we originally intended for the game, and there's going to be quite a few months of in-character upheaval before we settle into that. Keep an eye out for this plot upheaval and be prepared for a rather tumultuous in-game time for all our lovely characters (starting with a mini-earthquake projected for very early November) after the Halloween Events are sorted out.
Speaking of which...
2. HALLOWEEN EVENT PACKAGE
We've got a few events planned for the time before Halloween, coming up in about a week or so. We thought we'd let you guys know the events and the timeline so you can plan ahead for anything you'd like to participate in!
The Halloween Events are as follows:
Masquerade Ball At Lion's Gate
Lion's Gate will be holding a formal masked ball on the night of October 23. This masquerade will be a formal black tie affair, and will have a cover charge of $150 per person, $250 per couple, with this cover charging including hors d'oeuvres. Drinks will be extra. There will be dancing, socializing, a live band, and the option to sleep in various rooms in the club, as the party is overnight.
Newcomers will be admitted to this ball providing they can pay cover and are stylish and classy enough.
Tainted Candy
Always check your candy! This event will be happening from October 24 to October 31. A fraternity from the
University of Hillsdale, SERO's university, will be dressing up as
Plague Doctors and handing out candy both moving through the streets and at a large booth in the food court of the Underground Mall. They will identify themselves as SERO university students and are taking donations, stating that the money will go to charity. They will be handing out candy bags for free, donations optional but requested. The money will be going to The Childrens' Ward at
The SERO Hospital.
As the title of the event suggests, these candies will be tainted - a sort of prank being pulled on the City by the fraternity. The effects of the candies will make themselves obvious 24 hours after the candy has been eaten in an attempt to obfuscate what the source of them were. The effects will last for one week.
Candy bags will consist of various pieces of the following, with the following effects:
Leech-Shaped Gummies: These will cause the person who ingests them to bleed extremely easily - particularly effected will be the nose and mouth, but any cut will bleed excessively, and bruise very easily. The effects aren't life-threatening unless a very large injury occurs.
Candy Corn: These will cause mild visual and audio hallucinations. People who eat them will see occasional flashes of a figure just outside their line of sight, and will hear the occasional voices just barely in earshot. Any attempt to look directly at the source of the vision or sound will show nothing, and the hallucinations are fleeting and insubstantial.
Macaroons: These will cause the person who eats them to lose their appetite. They won't want food, they'll feel nauseous whenever they do eat, and everything will sit badly.
Peanut Butter Toffee: These will affect the neural reflexes, causing twitchiness and insomnia. The person who eats them will find that they physically overreact to things - the smallest startling noise, touch, or flash of light will cause a violent startle reaction. Additionally, this will cause a very nasty case of insomnia due to these heightened reflexes - even if the person is able to sleep, they will startle themselves awake multiple times a night.
Again, these effects will show up 24 hours after the candy is eaten, and will last for a week maximum. Depending on the character, the effect may last as long as a week or much shorter. The effects can stack on top of each other, but each one will be more mild as it is stacked on the others.
Fear Gas Haunted House
The City will be promoting a Haunted House in Sector 4 that will be running on October 28 and 29. The Haunted House will be held in a recently vacated four story apartment building that is safe to be in but slated to be torn down and rebuilt. The cover charge will be $10 per person, $5 for kids under 12 and seniors over 55. Customers will be lead on a tour through a very typical haunted house (though possibly more realistic as there are a few illusionists on the haunted house team), with scares and fun for all.
The catch? Scarecrow will be, at some point shortly after the Haunted House opens, be moving in and taking the place over to test his fear toxin. This means that the place will be flooded with fear gas, and become more a nightmare than it was ever intended to be.
Fear Toxin: This gas can only affect characters who don't have immunity to poisons or toxins, and will have a shortened effect for characters with accelerated healing or cell regeneration, limited to about 10 to 15 minutes. For characters who are affected, this fear toxin will cause your character to feel something like a bad trip - essentially it will force the character's fight-or-flight responses, and cause them to hallucinate their worst fear. In most cases it will focus on one primary fear that is normally controlled (such as spiders, or heights), and in some cases it will force the person to re-experience past events that have caused them a great deal of fear.
(Thanks to Tiny for the write-up on fear toxin!)

the player contact page.
Zombie Outbreak
This event will be happening during the Darkness on October 30 (that is, from evening siren on October 30 to the morning siren on October 31). A SERO scientist has decided that it would be very funny to set loose zombie hordes during the Darkness. These zombie hordes will be in great abundance, and will attack anyone who's out during the Darkness that night.
If your character is bitten, scratched, spat or bled on, or otherwise attacked by one of these zombies, the full effects will last during the Darkness only. For the entire next day, the character who was bitten will feel some after-effects.
The effects of being attacked during Darkness are as follows:
- Severe pain at the site of the injury or point of fluid entry, quickly followed by rotting smell, skin going grey, and spreading pain and fever.
- Once the entire body has been consumed by the grey rot, the character's mind will degrade to an animalistic nature. They will crave flesh, either monster or human - zombies will want to eat everything that moves.
- Sight and touch will completely devolve. It's a typical zombie thing. No pain, no sight, no intelligence, no coherent thought. However, zombie hearing is very good, so be quiet if you want to escape!
- Monsters can be bitten and turned, so your character doesn't have to be attacked by a zombie proper - your character can be attacked and turned by a zombie Mutation or any other kind of monster that has been zombified.
The morning-after effects of being attacked are as follows:
- The character will have a massive hangover feeling - headache, nausea, sensitivity to light and sound. All body functions will be slowed down while the immune system fights off the last of the disease, so expect digestion, healing, and even the use of abilities to be slowed down.
- The character will have a severe craving for raw, nearly raw, or extremely rare meat throughout the day, even if they were previously a vegetarian.
Trick-or-Treating and Fairgrounds
Trick-or-Treating: For the day of Halloween, October 31, the typical trick-or-treating with children dressing up and going door to door for candy, toilet papering, egg throwing, and all the rest will be happening at midday. This is a long-standing City tradition, put in place due to the Darkness. Expect a lot of tricking - toilet papering and egging are extremely common, but most tricking will be pretty harmless. As for more serious tricking, the same rules apply for destruction that apply to everything else - contact a mod if you want an apartment building or anything bigger than that to be destroyed.
Fairgrounds: The rides will be open at the
Fairgrounds. This will consist of the usual fairground rides, a Farmer's Harvest Market, animal shows such as a farm animal petting zoo and prizes for well-raised animals (and vegetables), and a few auctions of various goods. There will be a giant bake sale with proceeds going to farms recovering from the year's disasters, game stalls, and various other entertainments. This fairground will be open the entire day of Halloween, opening just after morning sirens and closing just before evening sirens.
EDITED TO ADD: The Joker, who nests himself in the Fairgrounds, will be playing a few nasty pranks on Fairgoers. These pranks will be easy to avoid if you'd rather your character had a happy fun day at the fair, but can be played with if you'd so desire.
Joker will be leaving several of his booby traps active during the day, and he will be rigging a few games at the fairgrounds, such as a Duck Hunt game using real rifles, or a dunking game having acid instead of water. The Teacup ride will be exploding at some point during the day, causing a few fatalities.
These events can be avoided, as mentioned, and not noticed until the news about it breaks the next day, but can be participated in at will.
Please contact Psi for any additional plot information, specific events that will happen, and for plotting this kind of thing out. Her contact information can be found on
the player contact page.
These events will be happening in the week leading up to Halloween, and various open logs will be posted for any event requiring one so that players can mingle, either by the mod journal or, in the case of the haunted house, by Tiny. Any players are welcome to start open logs or closed logs related to these events as well.
We hope you guys enjoy these events, and as usual, any questions, comments, or concerns can be directed to the mod team via AIM, email, or in the comments. Reminders of these events will be popping up in the news between now and when they start.
Have a great Halloween guys!

Name: Mischief Knight, Smashed Pumpkin
Appearance: A pulpy orange mass of pumpkin, pumpkin seeds, rotten eggs, soggy toilet paper and melted shaving cream
