Tot wasn't as smart as Hel, she knew that; and she wasn't as smart or as strong as Nagi, and this was the proof.

She'd gone out to see if there was still a convenience store open, just to find something sweet, and she'd tried to be stealthy and unnoticeable, she usually was good with the quick kills--but she'd been blindsided by something, something she couldn't quite see for the darkness but didn't sound nice and swiped at her and she knew when she was beaten, so she'd run, and then dove underneath some sort of overpass, and she'd screamed when it got very close to her neck, and she must have stabbed it a few more times because she always, always had her parasol, and she screamed again--

"Nagi-kun!"

He recognized that voice. And that name, of course, how could he not? Before he could think twice about it, wonder if Nagi was in the area to help, Ken took off running in the direction he'd heard Tot's voice coming from.

Past history or not, she was only a young girl. He wasn't going to stand around and do nothing.

It was dark, but he could still make out the struggle--the moon provided more than enough light. Tot was facing some twisted thing, something that might have been human once. A very long time ago. Now it had claws and fangs and was generally something out of either a nightmare or one of those survival horror video games Yuki insisted on playing late at night.

Whatever it was, it had to go. Ken's hand found its way into the heavy bladed glove at his side, it took but a moment and then he was throwing himself into the fray, shouldering the thing aside and away before slashing at it with his own claws.

The claws ripping into--into the whatever it was startled Tot almost as much as the thing itself, but she used the distraction as best she could, she scrambled further back, got a better grip on her weapon, and stabbed again.

The claws were bigger and heavier than the ones she remembered, but she recognized the weapon. Recognized the weapon before the face but that came, too. She'd known he was here, but...

Tot could only just appreciate the lack of sanity and self-preservation that attack took--didn't match her image of Weiss, but she couldn't manage without him and--well, she didn't know if he could manage without her. But not leaving that to chance sounded like a good idea, and the enemy of my enemy... but that was why they worked with Schwarz, and see what that had ended up doing--he was going in at it with both hands, and his superior strength--she couldn't match either of them, the monster or Weiss.

The thing pulled back, hissing, as an unbidden growl escaped from Ken's own throat, from the strain of pushing the creature away--it was a hell of a lot stronger than it looked. He dared a glance back over his shoulder, at Tot, when the parasol jabbed past him, gouging another wound in the twisted thing.

It came back to bite him in the ass when the monster's claws raked down and over his arm, cutting through clothing and skin, leaving four burning trails in their wake. Ken cursed his distraction and returned the favor with interest, twisting to shove a fistful of sharp blades underneath the creature's chin (or whatever passed for it), snapping its head back and making it fall.

But there were more to replace it. Of course there was.

"If you want to run, now might be the time!"

The only reason he'd even let Tot leave the house alone after Darkness was because one of his bosses at AGI had decided to call him and talk at length about what he felt needed to happen soon to make sure that certain people in the company weren't injured given the newcomers' evident dislike of the slave trade and their role in it. As much as he tried to keep it short, the man had an unfortunate tendency to ramble.

Only once the call was over did he notice that Tot still hadn't returned. He heard something outside, quickly shut his company-issue phone, and scrambled out the door to see what was going on. Again, he heard that familiar voice and this time, he could make out what she was saying. His heart thudded in his chest and he forced himself to both run and put up a barrier around himself. What was going on?!

"Tot, I'm coming!"

The voice registered. Her best chance! Tot screamed indistinctly, just to give Nagi's voice something to follow--and followed it up with another yelp of pain when something gouged into her ankle. Hard. Just a split second later and there was force against her chest, teeth deeper into her shoulder and wrist. Something was trying to topple her over.

He kept following the sound of her voice and ignored the burn in his lungs from running harder than usual. It didn't matter as long as he could protect her. Once he grew close enough to make out what was going on, his blood boiled. Siberian stood nearby, claws out. Without hesitation, he flung him away from Tot, closed the remaining distance between them, and tossed the monsters around as if they were specks of dust. They connected with nearby buildings and didn't return. Good, they were dead.

Nagi wrapped his arms around Tot's shoulders gingerly and flinched when he felt her clothes, damp with blood. "I'm here, Tot. We need to get you home, okay?" His voice shook.

Ken heard Nagi before he saw him, hesitated, started backing away--Lord knew that he would take it wrong, his presence there, with Tot hurt. When the boy appeared, it went about as well as Ken thought it would.

He was tossed backwards, the telekinetic blow feeling half like a stiff gust of wind and half like getting hit by an invisible Toyota, driving all the breath out of him. He slammed into a wall some twenty feet away from where he'd been standing, head whipping backward to crack heavily against the brick before gravity reclaimed him and he fell to the ground, dazed.

The screaming was what shook Ken out of his daze, though the tremors passing through the ground certainly helped things along. He'd felt this sort of power before, when Nagi had pulled down Masafumi Takatori's mansion around everyone's ears.

He pushed himself up, arms weak and shaking, vision blurred, ears ringing, head pounding. He bit back the nausea that rose as he moved, slowly, as if through water.

Not good.

In the three years since then, Nagi had only grown stronger and that wasn't hard to feel - everything shook more intensely in the moments his rage lasted. Only hearing something behind him shook him from his fit. Eventually, the trembling came to an end. Nagi carefully placed Tot's body on the ground, stood up, by now mostly soaked in her blood, turned around, and stared at Ken as if he were nothing more than a bug.

"You...." No other words seemed to work as well as that single, harshly spat one. Nagi stepped towards him deliberately.

Blood trickled down the back of Ken's head, his arms, his back--he looked up at Nagi and all of those concerns flew to the back of his mind, because he was well and truly fucked now, if Nagi decided to do something.

And Ken had no illusions that he would. They'd already been dancing on thin ice, even before this.

"I didn't touch her," Ken said, voice distorted slightly from the concussion. He fought off the urge to shake his head, instead keeping very still.

Before this, he'd simply wanted revenge on Ken for the past and would have been content to wait for his opportunity to strike. Injuring Tot, though, was an unforgiveable offense and one that required immediate action while Ken was injured and less able to fight back.

He froze Ken's arms in place and moved in a little closer to better watch the look on his face. "I don't believe you. Why else were you there?"

Rather than use his power, Nagi for once chose to use his real hand to slap Ken hard enough that his palm stung sharply. It wouldn't hurt much; it was simply proof that Nagi had been pushed far enough to not care or think clearly.
