"Would you forget the fucking garden for a minute and help me?"

When the dust had cleared away and the flames stopped licking high and relentlessly hot, Sasuke had made a dive for the kitchen with a careless disregard for the rest of the house and the state of everything around it. He didn't seem to give a damn about their losses. He'd lived too long in temporary housing, shuffling from place to place, to start forming emotional attachments to one now.

But there was something he did feel an attachment to. Something he'd worked on all morning that he didn't want destroyed, and a very small window of time to work with.

He turned with a grimace, teeth bared at his brother in a frustrated grimace. "Itachi! Now!"

Itachi moved quickly at the shout, darting back into the treacherous house and dodging around problem spots to follow Sasuke into the kitchen. It was the worst hit, but he had figured there would be time to let the last of the embers cool before venturing back in here again.

"What? What's wrong?" he demanded, looking around for more flames, or fresh danger.

"I need the oven unburied. We can deal with the other problems after this."

Ironically, Sasuke didn't care about the broken gas line connecting to the oven that was the source for all their fire issues. It made logical sense to unbury the oven so that could be capped, but equally it'd be just as easy to solve that problem by further burying the entire mess under dirt and letting the lack of oxygen snuff out the flames.

It wasn't the oven he cared about, but damned if he'd let on this soon. He braced a shoulder into a support beam and scowled, trying to shove all his chakra-enhanced weight into it and force it off the top of where the oven had been.

"Hurry up."

Itachi stared for a moment. Had Sasuke gone mad? The kitchen was still filled with flammable gas, and it could burst into flame once again at any moment. They should be concentrating on burying the whole thing and letting it cool, not messing around with support beams.

But Sasuke seemed determined.

With a reluctance in his steps, he moved close to Sasuke and put his shoulder to the beam, pushing hard to help Sasuke lift it.
