She had a few, what she would call, pet projects. Things that really she was doing on her own and didn't feel the need to talk to too many people about. It was basically the state of things at the WRO about half of her work were pet projects of hers or Reeve's, or even Shalua's, or evolved versions of those, so it was completely normal to occupy herself with a lot of the same ( ... )

"It was worse than Cid's when the Shera's messin' up and that's sayin' something." Yuffie said matter of factly, waving off the comment. She'd be glad not to quote the guy anymore. Some of the stuff he said was plain gross, and she'd spent a good part of their third conversation trying really hard not to end it with him having a concussion. The table they'd been at probably had a ton out gouges into the wood where she'd been digging at it with one of the shuriken to distract herself from the smileball ( ... )

Edgeworth looked at Kisaragi with a measure of surprise. He’d expected the conclusion of that train of thought to be “No, absolutely not”; she was, after all, one of those antiestablishment types, who seemed to believe that their own form of justice was swifter and more effective than that doled out by the system, therefore refusing to take any risk for the sake of the system, completely ignoring the fact that at times risks had to be taken. Frankly, he’d been surprised even by that hesitation and thought before what he’d assumed would be the refusal to testify. So he frowned, and finally nodded at Kisaragi with something very much like respect.

“It would make for a stronger case, but I can try to work around it,” he said. “I’ll need you to sign an affidavit stating that you were the party involved in this conversation, and you might potentially have to give a statement before the judge. Nevertheless, I’ll attempt to limit the testimony before the public and the defendant to the transcript of this conversation and nothing more.”

"Can do, just tell me when I need to talk to the guy and where I sign." Yuffie nodded, a grin coming easy with after finding out it wasn't totally necessary for her to out herself as a sort of kind of vigilante....something if you went by the rules here. She wasn't sure exactly what someone would call her, because really The Great Ninja Yuffie was the only title that fit without the WRO and you were only head of intel if you had somewhere to be the head of it for.

She went to go and sit back down on the counter....but thought better of it and instead walked to the couch and flopped backward over the side, laying back with her feet kicking in the air.

"So. Edgeworth. Think you can get this Phil guy?

Edgeworth was not so arrogant to scoff and respond with a dismissive “Of course.” Were he at home, he might have been, but here he’d found that the legal system worked along rather less honest principles. Still, this was decisive evidence of the man’s guilt; indeed, they could use this to charge the other man as accessory to this murder, and perhaps under the pressure he would agree to testify against his foul friend; and once they’d indicted the both of them, it would allow them to break in and dismantle this gang altogether...

Well. He rather doubted that Ms. Kisaragi would notice a bit of arrogance. Indeed, she’d probably welcome it as a familiar friend.

So: “Of course,” he said, with careless confidence - and only then did he look to Kisaragi. With some measure of concern, with a mind to his rather meager finances: “Do you require some recompense for this?”

Yuffie laughed at his response, marking up the tally in her head.

Wall Market Jackasses: 0, Great Ninja Yuffie and Co: 1.That, in her honest and completely biased opinion, was just plain awesome. Ever since she'd started the good gal to all bit back on Gaia, victories had always just been that much more fun. Something about knowing you were right was just the coolest ( ... )

Once again, Edgeworth blinked in surprise. She'd done this, risked herself, out of mere altruism? Out of nothing more than to see criminals put behind bars? It seemed that Edgeworth, who had originally taken her for an amoral fool, someone with far too much energy and not nearly enough sense, someone altogether without grounding in the real world, had altogether misjudged Ms. Kisaragi.

"Then tea it is," he said, and set the papers aside - and then, deciding that the counter was not precisely the safest place for them, took them into the living room to put into his briefcase - and then came inside and began making her that tea, every leaf infused with gratitude.
