[ there really was no way to tell dave gently "yeah I totally heard you bawling like some really uncool loser over your dead bro in the middle of the night," so terezi hadn't bothered with it. it tore her up inside to know that a friend of hers was suffering like dave was, but for the life of her she couldn't really understand why.
the troll still remembers quite vividly the conversation they had before she went on her merry justice-dispensing ways: dave ironically trying to blow off the fact that he wasn't upset that his lusus was killed, all his double-talk and all his curmudgeonly short replies... the vapors she felt when the whole JUSTICE thing came down upon his head via an exile... hehehe (well to be fair she couldn't forget that even if she wanted to). she understood why dave had to shove it all down and pretend it wasn't bothering him but the sincere insincerity of the whole conversation drove her up the fucking wall
( ... )
[ he should've guessed Terezi would be out there. he should've guessed that she'd come looking for him, but he hadn't really thought about it. it's just one more thing on his mind, coming to the surface when he hears her call from outside the door.
it bothers him that she might know what happened and that she's fucking judging him for it more than it bothers him that Bro got his shirt soaked and passed out on by a fourteen year old, not a toddler. it bothers him a lot more. their relationship is weird, her opinion is different, she's a special case. even more weird and different and special than his three human friends. not more, just. weird and different and special. in an alien troll kind of way.
[ the troll hesitates, sliding a hand down over the door to find the stupid doorknob so that she can twist it and let herself in. as the door creaks open, terezi pops her head in and takes a deep, silent whiff of the layout. last thing she needs is to trip over a shitty sword or whatever it was dave had in his sylladex before the day ended. she's trying to be cool-as cool as a troll can-about this whole thing in her own little spastic way. ]
Hey coolkid.
[ her voice remains quiet yet firm, lacking in any cackling or devious edge. she knows she doesn't have to walk on eggshells when it comes to dave because she's always pushed him. it's always been what he needed.
the door closes behind her with a light click as the stopper slides into place. trudging over to his bed, terezi catapults herself onto the mattress, getting droplets of water all over the sheets and comforter. ]
Yeah, they're all nocturnal. The ones going out during the day are total weirdos, social outcasts.
[ welp, wet bed. awesome. he does let go of his legs and stretches them out, though, shaking the blankets off of his shoulders. way to look like a big loser baby in front of tz, strider. big loser tittybaby. ]

I didn't know humans were nocturnal, too.
