When Castiel had left the Winchesters, it hadn't been with an aim or destination in mind. His goal had been simply to get away, to process, to try to figure out what had happened and why and what to do now.

Until the demon appeared and spoke, Castiel really had no idea where he was, or that he'd covered the same ground already. He also wasn't in the mood for banter, but that wasn't a new thing.

"I didn't intend to be here." He said quietly, truthfully, and tonelessly.

"You don't intend to be anywhere. That's what nearly gets you killed."

He was silent for a moment before he took half a step closer, glancing up and down, to take in Castiel's appearance.

"His death here means nothing," Crowley said abruptly, glancing back down toward the street, where Castiel had come from, narrowing his eyes slightly at some strangers on the street corner. "It isn't as if he's dead in our world. You're being depressed for little reason save for your own self-pity and indulgence."

Castiel bristled, emotions all on edge and unpredictable from what had happened. He knew, logically, that Crowley was right--Dean was home, wasn't he?--but that wasn't the issue, really. The issue was that Dean, here, had suffered and died for no reason and Castiel hadn't been able to do anything to help.

He understood that death was not the worst thing that could happen, and he generally didn't stress too much over even those he cares about inuring minor injuries or suffering some pain. But this was different.

"Be quiet." He said, but it was still toneless, with no snap behind it. He glanced up at the sky, almost aimlessly, gaze blank instead of looking at anything in particular. "Did you have something of import to address?" Castiel for, 'Make your point if you have one, and leave.'

"Make me," Crowley retorted somewhat flippantly, though it held less irritation and playful mockery than it normally would. Dean's death, though Crowley was certainly not heartbroken over it, bothered him too. It was undignified -- not worth a Winchester, the family that defied any laws set in place. Crowley expected more from the idiots that could. He was disappointed"And not particularly," Crowley added, shrugging a shoulder lightly. "I was in the neighborhood, seeing as I live here, and I noticed you wandering about like a moron, and was curious to see whether or not you had begun to drink yourself into early cirrhosis without me ( ... )
