The train screeches and sparks to a halt, when the conductor tugs on the emergency brake. For a moment the whole train wobbles, sending many riders and packages flying...

Then all goes dark, for about 5 seconds.

Those riding in the front car, prepare to see splatters of something viscous and crimson on the windows, when the lights flicker back on.

[ He doesn't panic.

Rising with the rest of the commuters, he scans the area with a sharp eye, the splash of red on the windows catching his notice immediately. He's not in uniform (not tonight), but he's armed no matter where he goes.

Lingering to give himself more space, he waits as most of the other passengers squeeze through the doorway like sheep. Something isn't right. ]

[Jake, however, is watching closely for any signs of activity. Thankfully, he was wearing his uniform and was able to call for some sort of backup. This just doesn't sit right with him either, and he's learned to trust his instincts on such matters. So, he has his police-issued pistol ready to go, as he carefully reminds passengers to "Watch yer step, ma'am". He glances over at one particular man who doesn't seem to be interested in going anywhere. Curious, he calls out to him.]

You gettin' off this thing, or are ya plannin' to stay here?

[ He glances at the man briefly, quirking a brow just slightly at the uniform. His attention, though, is for the mess outside.

Dryly: ]

It's not that much safer.

Beyond the ooze-like and humanoid Viscera swarming along the subway's floor and walls, there's another figure farther in, barely illuminated by the flickering lights. It's squatting on the tracks like an ugly roadbump, multiple (inhuman) limbs swaying warily in the air. Waiting. Watching.

For those who move closer, they'll find that it looks no better up close. At what approximates the monster's head is the tortured figure of what only barely resembles a woman, back arched in mute agony and arms bound above its head. It's the only part of the monster that remains constant; the rest is a mass of writhing, seething flesh, tendrils of blood and guts waving in the air. Faces, from time to time, shape themselves out of the monster's body, lips always parted in silent screams-- for those who kenw them, they can be recognized as the faces of its victims. It's far larger than any of the other Viscera, but none of them seem to pay it any heed.

For now, it hasn't attacked-- but surely it's only a matter of time.

Dante's attention is too focused on getting the civilians to safety to notice any differences in what he's killing. He's a fair distance away from the station, helping the people dashing down the tunnels from a stalled train. It isn't easy; he's used to fighting for himself, not protecting others. And it doesn't help in the least that some of them were injured already, moving slower as easy targets for the ambitious Viscera that dare to try their luck against Dante's handguns ( ... )

[ At the moment, Yako's propped herself against a bench, safely out of the way of the people milling around. For the moment, no one's paying her any attention, which suits her just fine. Neuro's hared off into the tunnels, chasing the monster's blood trail, and currently her only job is to try and keep from passing out. Aside from a few negligible scrapes and scratches, she doesn't seem to have much physical damage. Her leg's been set straight, and as long as she keeps her right arm tucked against her chest, there isn't much pain.

Currently, she's feeling rather lightheaded and useless, but rushing after Neuro isn't an option (and she suspects he'd rather throw her into a wall himself). So there's nothing to do but sit tight. ]

[Naoya's presence is like a thunderhead, radiating power and anger like some kind of swell, causing most people to get the fuck out of his way. His face is completely blank, however--the time he took to get here was long enough to remind himself that Yako, for all the similarities, isn't Abel.

Isn't his precious, accursed brother.

It's harder to remember than it should be.]

...What happened?

[He doesn't raise his voice at all, even as he kneels down next to her to get a better look at her injuries. He doesn't really need to.]

[ I died, but a friend turned back time for me, Yako (doesn't) say. ]

We-- [ Meaning, me and that assistant you're so suspicious of. ] --were looking into what was behind the subway murders. I guess it found us first. [ It's a highly abbreviated version of what really happened, and her weak smile suggests she knows it. There's nothing to hide the swelling that suggests broken (or at the very least cracked) bones in her leg and collarbone, and the bruises where Sissel's efforts were enough to save her from a messy death but not from thwacking into various objects along the way. ]

Doctor Seward, while not a man of conflict, had on occasion ventured out into the Dark to be affronted with some manner of terrible beast only to narrowly avoid its jaws by way of his quick wit. He was not so keen on succumbing to the carnivorous breed of monster, nor mauled or mutilated by any creature at all. He had, therefore, since taken care to exercise precautions should he be attacked, especially when travelling from work. Within the safety of walls a man could be allowed a little solace, but outside of them…He had to be ever mindful to observe his surroundings at all times lest he find himself prey to whatever happened to express interest in devouring him that night ( ... )
