The masquerade was tonight. Consequently, Clover was a vibrating ball of energy, barreling down the hallways and going about her usual chores with slightly more vigor than usual. Not like the party was going to start without her, and being fashionably late had its charms, but she had other reasons for being enthusiastic about attending.

Phantomhive, for all its size, could sometimes feel like it was home to nothing more than ghosts. Clover made up for it with the bang and clatter of her pail as she mopped across the hallway, humming loudly and off-key. The uniform would make it easy to identify her as a maid, of course, but it might seem at odds with the chunky headphones whose wires trailed down to what was presumably an MP3 player in her pocket.

Judging by the utter lack of self-consciousness as she spun her mop around and pretended to strum it like an electric guitar, she hadn't caught on to the fact that she was no longer alone.

Perhaps it's her banging and clattering that draws his attention in the first place. He doesn't know if it's out of place, although the refined design of the manor suggests to him it might be, but he wouldn't know any better. He peeks around the corner curiously.

He can recognize her as a maid, and he isn't so far in the past that headphones confuse him either, although he is wondering what they're plugged into... CD players are too big to fit in a pocket like that...

Clover's rock concert of one continues for a few more minutes before whatever song she's listening to finally ends, and she raises her hands, turning and bowing to receive an encore from an invisible audience-- and realizes she's got company.

Oh, crap. She straightens hurriedly, tugging the headphones down so they're around her neck-- there's a tinny burst of rock music audible from them before she dials the volume down.

"Can I help you?"

He had thought that she didn't know he was there, but her little bow actually does prompt him to clap awkwardly. He was just trying to be polite, not make fun. It takes him a moment longer to catch up with the fact that maybe she really had thought she was alone. He finds himself wishing he hadn't interrupted, but it's too late now.

Artemis shakes his head in silence, coming out from where he had peeked around the corner. He holds the pink orb of his NV out where it can be seen. He could just reach telepathically into the mind's of others, but... that seems rude to him. The NV as intermediary is better.

No, I'm sorry I interrupted you.
