Today was just one of those days. Routine was a big part of Tom's life, and it was important for him to stick to it. But lately his doctor had been suggesting that he take some more time to himself and go on walks. Explore the city. Maybe meet some new people. It brought on a wave of anxiety he wasn't thrilled about, but if it meant easing himself back into society then okay. He'd try ( ... )

It started with cutting out strips of skin along vital areas. His neck, near his jugular and throat, and down to his torso, exposing pieces of muscle like he was chiseling away at a block of stone to find the statue within. There was a distinct pattern to how he worked, cutting shapes in different parts of the epidermis and then digging his fingers into the skin to yank it away from the muscle. Tom didn't have an answer for that. The look on Dean's face told him any answer would be a bad one. And judging by the mess he'd made there was very little room for argument.

"C'mon, man. Just put the knife down and step away. It's okay." No, it wasn't.

It was harder to hear the dry rasping of his victim's breaths. The little gurgle as he fought for life. Tom could see the wet glisten of exposed muscle, twitching in pain from exposure. He could see the blood as it pooled up from somewhere inside. In the back of his head he could hear Sarah screaming for him to run. He could hear the slamming of car doors in slow motion and the sound of a gunshot. He could feel the splatter of blood against his face. The light from Harry's helmet blinding him.

"We're gonna to get you help. Everything is going to be okay."

Dean just chuckled again and then tossed his blade up in the air to spin a couple times and land back in his hand, blade-end first. Then he held out the weapon handle first as though he meant to hand it to Tom in a peace offering. A minute later, he changed his stance to throw it lighting quick like he was playing darts with a knife. It went handle over blade and embedded itself just above Tom's knee. Then he walked over to his crippled double with the purposeful steps of a jaguar ( ... )
