She doesn't know where to get started asking questions, and she's from a civilization which just (re-)invented the telegraph, so the NV is totally foreign to her, and she wants to have half a clue

Busking with fire lizards - anywhere outdoors, daytime

A teenage girl is sitting on a primitive folding stool playing guitar, sometimes singing and sometimes just playing the instrument. Several winged lizards are singing a wordless descant from perches on a nearby awning, and several others are similtarly perched and just watching.

The guitar case is open for donations. [How much of a crowd and how much she has in the case depends on when, where, how long she's been there, etc. - whatever suits what you want to do.]

It's been a while since Ella had seen someone busking - she'd done a little when she first arrived, but hadn't gotten much in the way of help. Thank heaven she found steady work after that.

She was just coming back from the music store herself, having had to get a new case for her violin. Spotting Menolly, she stopped - then made her way over to where the girl was, partially for the music, and partially for the sight of the fire lizards.

"You're pretty good," she greeted, fishing out a couple of tens from her belt pouch. "Have you played long?"

"Played, ever since I can remember -- the old Harper used to have me play second parts in the Teachings back even before I was much good at it, and he did teach me to be good at it. Sang, well, always but I've only had lessons for about a year."

[It shows: she's really good with the guitar but only a couple notches above passable with the voice, at least to a fellow musician. She's also clearly not experienced with busking - she doesn't know how to draw in an audience which is predisposed to going about its way. But the firelizards help a lot there.]

Ella grins, kneeling to drop the money into the case. "I'm Ella." And then motioning to the little critters around. "... Are those baby dragons?"

Tower Apartments, right around Sirens

A very tired-looking teenage girl is leaning against the wall in the Tower apartments. She has a guitar case slung across her back and is carrying a small wooden folding stool. She pushes herself off the wall and starts trudging up the stairs.

...And bumps right into Sheila, who's rushing downstairs to snag a quick cup of tea before the Sirens actually do go off.

"Oh! Please pardon me."

"I'm sorry, I didn't see you," the girl blurts out, twisting so that she the folding stool and her shoulder tapped the wall instead of the guitar case on her back.

Sheila smiles. "'Tis quite all right." She rights herself quickly, tucking her book within the fold of her elbow. "My, ye've a lovely lute...oh, a guitar, as 'tis called now. Art thou a novice?"

Feeding firelizards, just outside a butcher's

A teenage girl comes out of a butcher's shop with a large parcel and walks down the street to an empty lot. As she opens the parcel, nine winged and very hungry lizard land in the vicinity. They gobble down the cheap meat as she struggles to see that the three smallest get enough to eat.

People-watching

A teenage girl is just quietly sitting and watching the people around her. She's wearing blue leather pants and an off-white shirt with blue and yellow knots on her shoulders, and an odd gold necklaces.

[Those with observational skills may notice one or more of the following: she's watching normal behavior, not unusual behavior; she's got some but not a lot of training in watching people; the golden necklace is a lizard tail; she has a telepathic link with an animal hiding in her hair; she's listening intently whenever anything making music passes by.]

Wednesday or Thursday evening before Siren's, nightclub

A teenage girl in a blue dress made her way in past the bouncers and is watching and listening. Possibly dancing if there's anything freform. She doesn't pass for an adult well, but she isn't making any trouble.
