[His biggest problem now was that, unfortunately, he was running out of triptocaine. That embarrassing moment over the NV yesterday stood out in his mind; he'd been so good to keep it hidden, and to have it suddenly crop up like that could only mean one thing.

Maybe he'd given too much to Sam, to help him out with. And maybe he'd been using too much, but he didn't think he had. But it was the same with the ARI; he'd been using it too much lately. Too much, too much. Hell, he had it on right now; everyone else thought they were sunglasses, but for the tell-tale blue light coming from it.

Sitting at a cafe, hand bouncing back and forth as he through a virtual ball back and forth against a wall. Waiting for his coffee to come out, along with some food. He almost didn't notice someone pass by, but the ARI caught it no matter what.]

...Mr. Amamiya? [Cautious, because it might not be him today.]

[A blink was all that Kazuhiko needed to break his train of thought. Eye closed on the image of the sky framed with the gray and glitter of buildings and opened in the direction of the voice that had called his name. His expression showed blatantly just who was in control, if his glasses and mannerisms hadn't done that well enough already. A quiet mask, the surface still enough to reflect what was around it. It was fairly easily to discern whom was speaking to him, and stepped from the flow of people to face the police officer named Norman Jayden, if his memory was correct. Tipping his head, he gave a hint of a bow out of habit as he answered.]

I am Kazuhiko Amamiya. [A quiet confirmation, something he'd done automatically since the moment of his awakening. His first memory of the waking world was occupied by police officers, by accusations, and by desperate attempts to convince the people around him of who he was.] Is there something I can help you with, Officer?

No, no, I just wanted to say hello. [Jayden said, reaching up and pressing a button to turn off the ARI, taking the glasses off.]

How are you doing?

[Somehow, that makes him relax a little. His attention watches the glasses as they come off. The glow is strange, and it makes him curious. Without hesitation, he stands beside the table, looking down, watching the officer. How is he doing? A strange question, one attributed to his lacking normal human contact.]

I'm here. [Awake. And that's something significant to be noted, however strange it sounds.] Contemplating going job hunting, though- [heh] -I'm not sure how well received that will be.

[Naoya had been unaware of the news, of the reality, of anything that had happened at all recently. But his work was done, his fridge was woefully empty, and Naoya had forgotten what it was like to be out in the daylight hours.

He had a box of dango in one hand, a stick wrested from it in his other, and he only stopped because Kazuhiko...was a familiar face, if not a familiar person. Kimihiko's friend. And he didn't look terribly happy.

When had Naoya ever passed up a potential opportunity?]

...Amamiya. [He remembers the name he'd been told after the man resurfaced--the glasses were consistent with that. Although he could be wrong about it, but he wasn't at all worried about Nishizono Shinji.]

[Even if the news didn't hit so close to the home in the most literal of speaking, Kazuhiko watches the network far too closely for the information to be missed completely. Granted, at the same time, he would have most likely locked himself away further into solitude until such time as he figured out what had happened. But it's clear to him regardless who is at fault. There's no way that Shinji can't be involved... the question is just how much had he been?

The voice pulls him from his thoughts as his attention scans the crowd to a man who seems to be looking straight at him. Blank faced, he barely seems to acknowledge the man before him until he actually speaks to him.]

Yes? [He faintly remembers this man, though he leaves the contact mostly open.]

holy shit I'm sorry I'm so slow ;A; cursestained August 12 2011, 20:39:45 UTC
You seem a little lost.

[Naoya doesn't need to be good at reading people to see that. For his part, Naoya looked...exhausted. The dark circles under his eyes were a fine contrast to how pale he was, anyway.]

[In truth, she didn't think she'd see Kazuhiko anytime soon after Shinji saw her at the party or his subsequent post about Yaha. With Vincent gone and other people disappearing by the day, Re-l's been too busy to keep track of who she needed to speak with and who she could talk with another time.

When Kazuhiko wanders past, she almost doesn't see him. She's finishing off some tea and tossing the cup into the trash when she turns and nearly runs right into him.

She stops and stares a moment.]

Hello, Kazuhiko.

Officer Mayer-! [Shock is on his face as she brushes against him, a near collision. Instinctually, his arms reach out, to offer stability if she is to need it. As she seems to be alright, his arms fall limp at his side, before sliding back into the safety of his coat pockets. There's a watch inside the left one, something that he likes to keep on him. Something to track any time lost.]

Are you alright? [A general question laced with an apology of sorts. The reason for it is settled deep into his stomach, something twisting and familiar, but he can't... quite recall.]

[She pauses and looks up at him, watching him stretch out his arms to help her. She doesn't falter, though, but she gives him a smile for his kindness. She takes a step back to give him a little room.]

Yes, I'm fine, don't worry. Are you?

[It's...awkward, even now.] I didn't mean to startle you.

[Liquid would have allowed him his space, unwilling to stifle him - but seeing Kazuhiko looking so thoughtful concerned him. Especially in the wake of recent events. Kazuhiko had been a friend of Yaha's, hadn't he?

This was almost the first time he had left Sector 11 other than to work, preferring to stay wrapped in the arms of Kadaj or Francis and drown his sorrows in them. He crossed the road without waiting for anyone to intervene, leaping easily over the solitary car that would have hit him to walk over to him.]

Kazuhiko Amamiya. Long time no see.

[It would have shocked Kazuhiko to see the man leap like that, if he wasn't used to this sort of thing by now. It's amazing the things that become normal after witnessing them a few times. But there's something wrong...]

Liquid Snake. [And a beat. He knows Yaha was a friend of Liquid's. And the loss is probably what's offsetting the man's mood.] I'm sorry for your loss...

... [He'll never get used to how easily Kazuhiko reads him. Even if he is essentially an open book when it comes to his thoughts.]

Thank you. [His voice is almost hesitant.] How are you holding up?

[Logically he should have been heading home after work. There were not many places that Kimihiko Ooe haunted. Instead, however, he'd found himself wandering once more.

Focusing on the traffic lights, he forced them to change so he could cross the road and stepped onto the other side without caring if anyone crashed. Luckily, they did not and the lights switched back to normal as he released them. It was finally becoming possible to hold it and move at the same time. Extremely difficult, but possible.

He had to lean against a wall to recover his energy, finding it coming easier now. Even with just the little magic he had learnt, it had helped with this as well. That type of control was useful for the technopathy too. He almost didn't notice Kazuhiko. Almost. And at first, he pretended not to, if only to see what he was doing.]

[Despite being preoccupied with his thoughts, Kazuhiko had kept his wits about him. It's impossible to judge when someone will lash out, or when the tiniest interaction witnessed could be the key to unlocking a puzzle of some kind. Or maybe it's just a nostalgic habit. Either way, the glitch in the lights, among other things, catches Kazuhiko's attention. And it's not long after that he spots Kimihiko.

A friend of Shinji's leaves a bad taste in the lighter personality's mouth, and so he doesn't approach at first. He's content to continuing his walk, doing his best to leave Kimihiko unaware that he had been seen. No eye contact, rather staring through the man and the crowd alike. A part of him wants to see if Kimihiko will follow. If the curiosity is mutual.]

[And follow he does as the man ignores him, falling into step behind him. One hand idly messes with the wire on his headphones. He knows the man has seen him. He can't not have.

So he joins him, uninvited as he is and entirely casual. Adjusting his glasses, he tugs them off. The light makes him blink. How tiresome.]
