[The distance between the table and the front door is nothing but a blink as Shinji pushes through the door into the outside air. Attention flickers around until he finds Liquid, the deep frown that had been set in his features twisting up. Fingers curl around the knife and hold it just out of sight. But there's no reason to hide it, there's no way to hide the intent in his expression. A freight train from a mile away is still a freight train.

And this one is heading straight for Liquid. Another few, rushed steps and he grabs Liquid's shoulder.]

Hey. [A tangible pop and an audible slurping sound as the blunt knife is driven into Liquid's side with a force that leaves Shinji's arm aching.]

[A hand grasps his shoulder and he starts. His reflex is to turn, to strike out, but his hand never reaches out towards its target. He sees Shinji too soon for that, cheek reddened from his blow and eyes dark with their intent.

Too late he realises the intent in question as the blade drives in and a choked noise escapes his lips. It takes more effort to drive a knife that blunt in, far more, and it hurts more than a sharp one. The blade nestles inside of him, his body gripping the intruder tightly enough to stem the blood flow. He draws in a sharp breath, fingers tensing against the wall as his body tremors.]

Hey... [He manages the word after a moment, surprise and pain in his expression.]
