[Of all nights to have to head across town, it just had to be tonight. On this train, at this exact second. Of course. Tom stepped in and sits on the seat closest to the door, only looking around after he'd settled. It's then he sees Peter, stops dead, and bolts up to leave, but the doors beep loudly and shut.

So not only are they now the only ones in the car, but he's just actually tried to scramble through the train's doors. And sucked at it.

Awesome. Just...awesome.

Tom sighs, shading his face with his hand and suddenly finding the floor incredibly interesting. May it's not so bad. Maybe Peter won't recognize him. He can get off at the next stop and change cars and everything will be fine.]

[ Yeah, think again Tom. The fact that he tried to make a mad dash out of the train hadn't helped his case, and that was right around when Peter realized exactly who the universe had decided to stick him with on his way home.

His automatic response was to stay put and just glare daggers at Tom's back, not that it really did anything but make him look borderline petulant. But what else were you supposed to do when you were stuck on a subway with the guy who killed you? He wasn't going to start talking about the weather.

But Tom standing there acting like Peter had no clue was just making him all the more perturbed.]

You know I don't care if you sit down, right.

[Fuck. That's really all you can say in a situation like this, huh. fuck, fuck, fuck.

Tom is quiet for a second, trying to think of something to say, or if he should even say anything at all. More of a "stick his head in the sand" response. There may be a heavy eye roll, but it's directed towards himself. Tom fiiinally glances in Peter's direction, but only for a split second. This is the last thing he needs right now. Seriously? Of all the people in the city?]

I'm fine, thanks.

[ Seriously. Peter's coming to the same conclusion that really, out of all the times he had to decide to take the subway, of course this would have had to happen. Next time he thought this would be good idea, he'd remind himself that no, no it really wasn't. Because there was absolutely nothing that made this okay. At all.

And now he had to wait for who knew how many minutes before either of them could make their escape since there really was just no easy way around this. His own response is short, clipped and aggressively to the point. ] Got it.
