While Peter was fairly comfortable with a number of his abilities, that didn't mean that he actually felt as if he'd mastered many. Maybe it would have been easier if he'd had more time learning each one, perfecting it until he knew the ins and outs, but that never seemed to be the case. He struggled with each, fighting for control when they seemed to have more of a hold over him than he had of them. The last thing he ever wanted anymore was to loose control, to hurt people with something he'd thought would save the world ( ... )

He could see forms coming into creation now, the rot over the streets having already spread a while ago but creeping into areas with light slowly, growing unafraid as the night continued to engulf the city. With the buffs in place, Hope let the new spells weigh heavily in his boomerang, using the object to anchor his magic so that he could let it build and build before he cast.

Two, three, four. They seemed to be relatively small at the moment, despite the numbers. Easy targets. Forming heads and mouths and reaching with claw-like arms toward movement.

It was even further in the distance, that the darkness was seeping in; things were growing, growling into life with no reason to stop, and Peter wasn't going to stand here and wonder just exactly what they were. Snap decisions constantly needed to be made, and this was one of those. Standing here trying to figure things out wasn't a choice, action had to be taken ( ... )

It was lucky that Hope had enough practice in battle that he actually hadn't been startled by the sudden appearance of someone else, and even had enough control not to automatically attack. It was reminiscent of his teammates, actually, whenever they ran into battle to help him; and for just a moment before he glanced to the side, he actually thought maybe they had come back to the Port. Maybe Snow, barging in on the fight with a cocky grin and all too ready to run up to an enemy to throw a punch at its face even if that face was overstuffed with fangs. Or Lightning, gunblade at the ready with her calm words of encouragement correcting his posture or timing ( ... )
