Reeve... wasn't really sure how to act.

This wasn't quite like Edelweiss, where visiting with his unofficially-adopted 'sons' usually meant someone was injured, comatose, or worse. Hell, he was still trying to get himself out of the habit of wolfing down food as soon as he got it (meals that weren't timed or, better yet, more than just a bowl of mush were still a novelty). And the idea of being relatively safe, of having a room and not a cell... it was all a very large adjustment for him ( ... )

He jumped when he heard a knock at the door and rubbed at his face. He took a deep breath and exhaled it slowly, and then moved to go open it.

Yorick, always overly excited for everything, barked eagerly and raced to the front door. He spun around, going back and forth between panting at Jack and sniffing intensely at the door. Jack ended up having to pick him up before he could open the door, and made a face as the puppy squirmed wildly and tried to free himself.

"Hi," he said, offering half a smile to Reeve. "See you found us okay. Weird, ain't it, the way it grows?"

"Weird," Reeve said dryly, "is one way to describe it."

Frankly, it had been bizarre, but- it didn't matter now, not with Jack standing there, smiling, a wriggling ball of fur squirming madly in his arms. "I take it this is the esteemed Yorick?" he asked, holding his hand out in front of the puppy's nose so it could sniff him. "Cute little bugger. How old is he?"

Frankly, he was glad Jack was holding the dog. He didn't have much experience with them; it would be awkward if the creature decided to hike a leg on his shoe or something like that. "... whatever you're cooking, it smells good."

Yorick sniffed at Reeve's hand eagerly before beginning to lick at it. Jack wrinkled his nose and set the puppy down, where he then began to race around, excited out of his mind by the visitor. "Four months," Jack answered, and lead the way into the kitchen.

The house was messy, but it wasn't so repulsive he was embarrassed by it. There were his and Sirius' clothes strewn about the place, and of course Yorick's toys scattered all over the place, and one couldn't forget the various papers and pens both Jack and Sirius used-- but besides that, it was really quite clean.

"And it's chicken and rice-- I figure basic food, you can't go wrong," he called over his shoulder. Entering the kitchen, he hopped up on the counter and smiled at Reeve. "And bread, o'course. Though-- we got other stuff if you don't like that."

Managing not to wince as his hand was coated in puppy drool (cats didn't drool, they shed fur, it was less sticky that way), he waited until Jack was looking away to discretely wipe his hand on what looked like a dirty shirt thrown over the couch. The firehouse was cozy, at least, and it reminded him of his college dorm-- except this place was cleaner.

Reaching down to pet the excitable pup's head, he followed Jack into the kitchen and took a seat at the table. "No, simple food sounds wonderful. My stomach can't handle anything rich yet, and most of the foods I've found myself missing are the basics."
