This woman had tried to scream when she saw him, tried to scream when she ran, tried to scream when he grabbed her... now that he had his fangs clamped into her neck, her desire to scream seemed to have died there in her throat. After a while he was even able to lift his hand away from covering her mouth. How pathetic ( ... )

Were this any other man, such azure eyes of a great-horned owl would have passed him over without merit, without alarm or even whimsy.

He didn't have long to dwell on the thought before he felt a cane smack into his boot. Raphael turned quickly and backed away from the alley, the glow of his blood red eyes narrowing sharply as he stared at the shape in the alley.

"Nothing prowls me, monsieur," he said after a moment, his hand reaching down to the hilt of his rapier... jut in case.

"And if it does, I feel quite sorry for it."

Like all their kind, the arrogance seemed to seethe from the aristocrat's very pores. The sort of noxious scent that posed for one's lips to curl in disgust, yet the shrouded stranger reserved himself to a rather macabre delight. A sardonic smile melded from the umbrage, followed by a pair of steel-bred irises of deepest blue. A stark contrast to the vivid scarlet he stared into with sharp prying, as if he sought to ransack his very soul, were there any to be upbraided in that wretched body ( ... )
