Raphael had actually been in the room before. After the two boys had been properly rescued and he assisted with other rescues, he'd made a point to check on them. He hadn't been visible at the time, not wanting to cause any undue stress on the part of the nurses. The angel had simply observed from the sidelines, keeping an eye on their progress.

Today, however, he decided a real visit was in order. Complete with actually letting the hospital staff know he was there and everything! He slowly opened the door, a bag in his arms and a much more solemn smile on his lips than was usual for the typically laid-back angel. Noticing that Ciel appeared to be resting, his voice was quiet.

"Hello, Alois."

There was a distinct lack of disdain bubbling up into his throat, when Alois rolled his head against his pillow and squinted over at Raphael. That was definitely who it was: one wing, bright halo, quite heavenly. Alois frowned, then, and parted his lips-

"Hello."

It was as simple as that.

That was fine. That was more than fine. Raphael had not been expecting detailed conversation. He strode over to the side of the bed, setting the bag down and giving the boy a look over. It was a sure thing that he looked better than it had a few days before, but the angel could tell there was still a long way to go.

"Hope you got cute nurses, at least... I brought something for you."

On his way out, Jack glanced over at the second bed in the room, his eyes lingering on the boy in it. Ciel, wasn't that the kid's name? He had spoken to him once before-- exactly once, actually, he realized. It had been months ago, when he'd been complaining about not being able to have wine; Jack had laughingly offered to buy it for him, teasing him all the while about his age. It was a strange thing to remember as he looked at the kid; the boy in the bed seemed so much frailer and younger than the arrogant brat Jack had spoken to all those months ago.

Glancing at the clock, he hesitated a moment-- he didn't have much time before work-- before sitting down next to the bed. This was either going to work or it wasn't, but he'd feel like crap if he didn't try.

"Hey, kid," he greeted, smiling at him. "How many painkillers they got you hooked up on?"

As Alois and Jack Kelly had chattered on, Ciel had contented himself with being quiet and pretending that he didn't exist. It was an easy role to play, especially when he was drugged up on painkillers for the trauma inflicted not only by the cultists but by Undertaker's scythe ripping through his body and spine. Thus, his bones and nerves ached and stung and although he hated the IV taped to his hand, he was grateful for whatever kept dripping down through the tube and into his body.

It was nice not to be able to feel much.

When he heard himself be addressed, it startled him mildly, a few dizzy blinks before he focused on Jack's face. What had been the question...?

Oh. Yes.

"A blend of some sort...something that drips in here and pills I have to take every twelve hours."

Jesus. It was necessary medication, god knew, but there was something deep in Jack's soul that disapproved of something that knocked you out that much. Nodding, he leaned forward, wishing he had thought to run out and buy something else. Ciel wasn't likely to notice in this state, but Jack felt vaguely guilty for getting Alois a present and not his roommate. Oh, well.

"Least they's workin', though," he ventured vaguely, and bit his thumbnail as he studied the kid. "You're one o' the lucky ones, y'know. You should see some of the bastards I brin' in every night on the ambulance, their faces all beat up-- least you still don't look half bad."

Alois was pretty bleary, too, and blinked quite slowly as he processed Akira's sudden presence. Then, he sniffed.

"I hope that's not carbonated," he said, slurring.

ciel&alois, since... you know, roommates. masterbaiting March 3 2011, 20:22:54 UTC
Alois was of the idea that Akira moving their beds together had been the best development yet- aside from plush toys and things, anyway. He'd come to realize that hospitals were generally just places to sleep- or, so he thought, because he really did keep fading in and out of consciousness.

This was one of the 'fading in' times, and his eyes opened halfway to stare at white. White, what was white? Was that an angel wing? His head swam - Christ, it might as well have been doing a constant doggy-paddle - and he blinked very slowly. No feathers. It was Ciel's hospital gown.

His fingers were loosely atop the other boy's; he hadn't been able to hold on very well in his sleep. And oh, he wished he could shift closer, and oh, he wished he could kiss Ciel for being alive, but he was sore and sedated, and so he rested there, breathing quietly, wondering whether Ciel was awake himself.

Ciel was, in fact, awake. Hazed and disorientated, but awake. He wasn't aware of much aside from the light of the room, the dull soreness that permeated his body and the weight of Alois' hand on his. He shifted then, quietly, a soft groan of discomfort slipping him as he did so.

He was tired and aching and a little bit thirsty too.

"Nn..."

Wow, right. Thirsty. Alois had the thought that his throat had never before been so dry, although it certainly had. It took a moment of licking his lips before he was able to mumble.

"Ciel?" he finally slurred, and shifted just a tiny bit. If Ciel was asleep- well. At least they were pressed together. But this was a surprisingly lonely feeling and Alois wanted the safety of voices aside from his own.

"...Yes?" It came after a moment, after a second of processing the voice and intonation; after realizing that it was his own name being called. A shift then, followed by a small sound before he was blinking himself awake, turning his head toward Alois.

"Alois?"
