[Abandoned areas are, of course, all part of the patrol route. So Robin hears that roar from just a few blocks away, and it's not long before she's on the scene. She'd have been afraid, a few weeks ago. At the very least intimidated. But now, heartless and fueled only by logic? Now she waits on her rooftop just long enough to get a feel for the monster's style. She watches it kill just as long as she needs to, and then she's moving.

Leaping into space between buildings, cutting a tight flip through the air, and firing one of her explosive pellets from her slingshot when she's directly above the thing. A test shot. She knows its general method of attack, now she'll test its defense.]

[ much like the specialist it had stolen memories and information from, the parasite had a keen sense of its surroundings. it soon became aware of movement above it and it growled lowly. it turned to look in a manner that was almost human, comparable to a curious child.

the explosive burned against its skin, and a piercing shriek erupted from its throat as a result. it turned around fully now, biomass rippling over its body. it watched this human's acrobatic movements. familiar. it reminded the parasite of Alex Mercer, that abomination it wished to destroy and consume.

roaring again, those sharp appendages shot outward, seeking to impale. ]

[She's expecting the impaling trick, having watched it a few times before, so she's ready. A line cast out at 90 degrees sends her snapping to the left and out of harm's way, and carries her to the ledge of a nearby two story building. She fires off three more shots rapid-fire from there before leaping over the edge of the roof to duck behind it.

It'd reacted to the shot, but she's not sure how much damage it'd actually done. She'll do a few more tries there before she breaks out the heavier arsenal, then.]

[ the next round of explosives garnered a similar reaction. more roars and screeches, more spikes shooting out and seeking the girl as she swung across from building to building.

a low grumble followed after that barrage, the burnt and injured skin wriggling against its hulking frame as it healed itself over within a matter of a few moments. it watched for her, angered and annoyed. she was like an annoying little fly buzzing about its head. she needed to be squashed. ]

[It's been a rough few days and it's about time for Re-l to not pull an all-nighter at work. She's grateful for the walk home; it'll give her time to just unwind before she gets home. She can't seem to think straight these days. It's embarrassing and unprofessional to think that she's slipping.

She rounds the corner and stops at the distinct sound of flesh moving and someone's muffled shouting. She grabs out her pistol and moves in quickly, looking for the source of the noise. What she finds is definitely unexpected, causing her to pause some several yards away. What the hell is that thing? The sirens haven't even gone off yet... She frowns, keeping the creature in her sights as she tries to get a better look at it.]

[ what Re-l had heard was the parasite indulging on another hapless citizen. and what she would soon see as she approached would be the beast mauling the man with rows and rows of serrated teeth. ripping flesh from bone, blood dripping down around its feet.

its eyes flicked over to her, having filed her away as "more food" rather than "a threat." the pistol isn't even glanced at; the monster locks its gaze on her face.

the remnants of the man were discarded. what was left wasn't worth finishing, anyway. this one looked younger. more appetizing. it growled as it approached slowly, hulking steps crushing the remains of the man and practically grinding flesh into pavement. ]

[When it turned and she could finally get a look at it, she actually started in surprise. She hadn't seen anything like it, nothing so large and- God, was that all raw flesh? It was nauseating to look at.

She took one step back, then another, raising the gun and taking aim for one of its shoulders, shooting at it.

All the while, she was summoning her own power, knowing she could escape with ease. Still, curiosity...]

[ its disinterest in the firearm hadn't changed, even as the woman rose the pistol upward and took a shot at it. the bullet sank into the flesh, but after a brief moment, it was seemingly pushed out, hitting the pavement with a clatter. the parasite wasn't stopping, either.

growling with increased interest, it dragged its bladed arm along a nearby wall. intimidation tactics. this was no mindless beast, it seemed. ]

[ Having read about this creature in the news feed this morning, Grell is anxious to get a closer look at it...

...and, as his mild-mannered, butler-turned-photographer alter ego "Eric Slingsby," wants to get some pictures of it. Because it's really quite amazing what people will pay for a really good, really gory picture.

And - Grell simply likes mayhem!

As the creature rampages ever closer and closer, "Eric" trembles, knees knocking together, but camera at the ready! ]

Oh my goodness gracious!

[ anyone who had the balls to merely gawk at the parasite was automatically labeled as "interesting." after mauling through more citizens, the now-blood soaked creature instantly took notice to sudden flashes of light, followed by terrified screams.

it grumbled, sounding like a rather disgruntled bear woken from slumber. it eyed the man and his camera, then stared. the parasite had no knowledge of things of this nature. most people didn't stand to gawk at the Infected, much less take photos of them. they usually ran. but this one wasn't.

intrigued, it stalked closer, tossing aside the remnants of a corpse it had been dutifully chewing on prior to interruption. ]

[ OoooOOoooh~! Lovely! Action shot of the corpse being flung aside. Close up of blood dripping from the creature's gaping maw! ]

AAAAIIEE! Don't eat me, PLEASE! I'm just a photographer.

[ FLASH! ]

I'm sure I taste absolutely disgusting!

[ FLASH! FLASH! FLASH! ]

In fact, I--

[ Looks up from the camera. And here's a funny thing - objects in a camera lens are WAY CLOSER than they appear! ]

AAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIEEEE!!!

[ That would be a genuine scream, there... ]

[ the words were understood; the parasite had no problem with language. it merely lacked the ability to respond in kind. instead, it made a noise that almost sounded like a laugh, suggesting that that variety of pleading had no effect on the Infected.

the scream was amusing. the parasite's mouth opened, revealing rows of sharp teeth. a hissing sound followed. perhaps toying around with food was immature, but the Hunter had a lack of entertainment for a while now. dragging its bladed arm forward, it swiped at the air between them. scream again, it was urging without words. ]

[ the parasite had already mauled its way through the droves of humans that littered the streets in a panic and its body was soaked to the bone with blood. when it caught sight of yet another human, merely sitting and watching its actions, its curiosity was piqued once more.

growling, it stalked closer, holding its bladed arm up in a taunt. the insults had no effect on it, despite its understanding of human language. no, it would take more than that to get it enraged. ]

[ the man was speaking to it, regarding it as if it weren't a monster, but a sentient being. only one person had done that thus far, and the parasite wasn't sure what to think. it searched Cross' memories briefly, before attempting speech by means of morphing its vocal cords into something more.. useful. ]

Yessssss. [ its voice was a raspy hiss, unused and unfamiliar. using Cross' form would have been a better choice if this man wanted to make conversation, but even the parasite knew that was a bad decision. morphing into Cross' body again would just give the foolish Captain a foothold into regaining control. and that just wouldn't do. ]

[In a strange way it was almost like home. The giant monster before her was twisted and mutated in ways she hadn't seen, but it wasn't the first augmented monstrosity she'd taken down, and it wouldn't be the last.

The barrel of her arm-cannon cycled open to allow for a wider aperture and her fingers danced over the small controls on it's surface. A red light blinked and she grinned wide inside her helmet.

Missile primed.]

HEY! EAT THIS!

[Springing from the nearest building, Samus somersaulted through the air, letting lose with a roaring rocket that blasted towards her newest adversary.]

[ this was a new experience, both for Cross and the parasite. armored soldiers were a thing of fiction, despite Cross' own armor and souped up weaponry. nothing quite like this.

but the parasite only had information from Cross' memories to draw upon. it watched this person with interest, cycling through possible information towards figuring out what, exactly, it was. it came up empty handed, and a chest full of explosives for its effort.

a shrill shriek erupted and the parasite stumbled backwards, using its bladed arm as support to prevent it from toppling over. biomass rippled over its body and retaliated in an explosion of spikes, seeking the other out. ]

Drek!

[A chunk of the Varia suit came off at the shoulder as spikes exploded from what had previously seemed a smooth, unoffensive part of the creatures body. Icons flashed to show the remaining integrity of the suits structure, but she didn't need them to know a chunk of the shoulder plating was gone, and had narrowly missed taking a part of her with it.

Rolling as she hit the pavement, Samus balled up and zipped behind the closest available cover, the aperture of her cannon closing again. Missiles were a commodity, and she couldn't risk expending too many of them until she had a way to make more. That made the next part decidedly straight-forward.

Popping up she let loose a blast of super-heated plasma, not even waiting to register a hit before she was moving again, sprinting to the next building corner she could seek cover behind.]

[OOC: Do you know the Varia Suit from metroid? I can post pics if you need reference :) ]

[ the parasite reveled in the damage it had caused to this soldier, who, upon hearing that curse, was apparently a woman. well, woman or not, the parasite didn't discriminate on who it ate.

in the space of time it took for the missile to hit and the next wave of gunfire to reach the parasite, the wound it had incurred had already healed. but that didn't mean that the searing heat of the plasma was going to tickle. it screeched again, eyes seeking out the woman with the intent to impale her or rip her apart with its clawed arm, whichever came first. ]

[ ooc: i don't recall that one, no. pics would be sweet! ]
