Weather, and its potential to be either good or bad, was last thing on Miharu's mind. He had staid with Edgeworth for a couple days, because he had been afraid to live on the streets, but it had become overwhelmingly apparent to him - this small boy sensitive and helpless and confused - that living on the streets might be better than staying in the presence of something he could hardly stand.

He's unsure how he'll do it, but better than Edgeworth's. Better than Edgeworth's, he's sure. After agreeing to wait for Zexion, he adopted a place against the wall of a fence, stick-legs out on the ground in front of him, slouching. When he's found, even before Zexion calls his name, he's staring at his little NV in his palm. His thumb repeatedly the line that will find Yoite for him, but the gaze is blank. He knows if he tried to call for him, he wouldn't get an answer ( ... )

Miharu was just a little scrap, really; sentimental comparisons sprung to mind. A dusty bit of a sparrow, or a kitten worn down to skin and bone. He was small for his age and nearly colorless in the sunlight, pitiful enough to the naked eye that Zexion sighed yet again at the sight of him. It was a surprise that such a creature had even managed to survive here so far ( ... )

:( sorry this was slow. i crashed super hard suddenly. torporheart March 12 2010, 22:54:21 UTC
With eyes locked on the ground, he doesn't see the hand reach for him. By the time it arrives at its bony, fragile destination, he flinches. It's not painful, of course, only startling. It provokes him to lift his eyes, though, and they land on Zexion with a combination of doubt and self-blame and too much young eyes should be harboring. A plethora of emotion that ends up leaving him with the sensation of vacancy.

It's only briefly, though. And then, they're back to cracks in the sidewalks and little brown loafers. 'Difficult' feels like an understatement. "I guess," his voice is always small, but the words are especially quiet.

That face - he could read it like an open book. Those eyes like open wounds, like graves. Zexion met Miharu's gaze for a moment - solemn, self-posessed, adult - before giving the young boy's shoulder a slight squeeze. "An obvious question, wouldn't you agree? Of course they have been. It's impressive that you're still standing." Easy, easy, to give honeyed words, comfort, the occasional compliment. And no cost to him.

A bit more pressure, guiding, urging Miharu to move and walk as Zexion wishes, before he continues speaking. "You must be tired. Edgeworth has been keeping you? Whose decision was that?"
