People were annoying. That was nothing new, of course, but with Valentine's Day approaching, they only got worse. It was a stupid holiday anyway, and if he could have avoided being around such idiocy, he would have.

But errands didn't perform themselves.

Hitsugaya was ready to dismiss the lot of them, but he came upon a familiar face: Honda-san . . . or Japan, or whatever. He was still having a difficult time accepting this whole "representation of a country" business.

Someone said something along the lines of, "Brass beavers look out!" Which was completely inane -- and moreover, what the hell did that even mean? -- and before he could shake his head in annoyance, Honda-san actually repeated it.

Instead of shaking his head, Hitsugaya actually stopped. And blinked at him. Just . . . what? "Do you have any idea how nonsensical that sounds?"

The voice of someone familiar was startling, and Japan couldn't help but feel a bit embarrassed at the call out. He frowned. "Ah, Hitsugaya-taichou." There was a bow for the smaller male, whose height was noted by Japan rather quickly-- though silently. "I seem to realize it after saying it..." He looks a bit bothered, raising his hand to hover near his mouth in thought.

"To think that I must fit in with such people... I am not sure if I can keep up with such a thing."

Noting his height (or lack of it) silently was a wise move. It might have put Hitsugaya on the defensive despite his better judgement had the topic been brought up. So, as it was, his face stayed neutral as usual.

"How do you not realize something like that before you say it?" Really, why wasn't hearing something along those lines enough to judge its stupidity? He checked a sigh of exasperation. "That can't possibly be a common saying. You'll likely stand out more if you speak that way."

"It is not, then?" Japan just looks confused. How is he to know what is common or not? Western culture just seems entirely different, and as far as he knows, the best way to learn anything is to try it for yourself. Of course he had determined that most of the things he was trying were not meant for him, but maybe there would be something..

"Forgive me. What would Hitsugaya-taichou suggest?"
