[He's lying in bed when Naruto shows up. Naruto wouldn't know it, but he's posed just as he was when he woke up after his own auction back in NeoGenesis: on his back, hugging himself for warmth, staring at the ceiling with bloodshot eyes. And-- god, more than anything, he wants his master here. Not his friends. The person who owns him. The one who can tell him what he's supposed to do.
But since Naruto's the one who walks in, not Itachi, Shikamaru unfolds his arms and sits up slowly. He doesn't look at his friend.]
[Shoulders hunched, he leans back against the wall. Time for the whole story.]
When I first got to prison, a couple of guys from AGI came to see me. They said they'd seen the tapes-- You know, from Edgeworth's office. The evidence of the attack. They'd seen what my shadows could do and they thought it'd make things a lot easier for them. Because it's rare to find someone with a power like that, the power to control people's bodies that completely.
They gave me a choice: either I come with them, or they'd make sure me, Edgeworth, Sirius... We'd all get life in prison. Everyone attached to the case was already in their pocket.
I didn't agree right away. I pled guilty and tried to get them free on my own. Those men came back, showed me a bunch of stuff they had that could get Edgeworth right back in prison... or maybe even straight into their custody.
even if he had figured that there was more than anyone knew, that things were something like this, it didn't make it easier to hear. not when there had been hope for some other explanation until now.
he plods into the room with intent to sit on the bed with his friend, but...he doesn't make it. by the time he reaches the corner, he has to sit down.]

Can't help what I don't know.
[he unfolds his arms and goes to rubbing the back of his neck, going from looking like a stern lecture was oncoming and more like a sad puppy]
It's true, though?
