Outlining what will happen starts here. rapturescreed January 5 2011, 21:58:09 UTC
[Raul stood up as everyone sat down, to begin the meeting.]As I said in my invitation, this is the first meeting of what I hope will become a driving force within the city. As Newcomers, we are given immigrant status, though many of us now call this city our home; some of us have no other home to go back to, if we are given that opportunity. I feel that while we are here, then it is best that we start making the changes to this place that we would want to see in the future. The time is now to band together to make these changes; by forming a political party all our own, that has the needs of Newcomers, as well as the rest of the city, at the forefront of our plans, we can have the power to make these changes ( ... )

[Sander's callin' him out:]

If you would so kindly speak up, Miles, you're mumbling~♪

[He looks up and speaks clearly, ringingly.]

I merely fail to see the logic in knowingly installing the corrupt in order to avoid corruption. It's akin to befriending the dead to avoid losing anyone.

[Cohen smirks in return.]

On no account did I suggest the appointed individual were to be corrupt. I am simply stating that our guy be aware of the possibilities of corruption. And - that they avoid excessiveness of all standards. And that they keep their hands out of other peoples' pockets and their snoots out of other peoples' businesses.

Let the record reflect, then, that Mr. Cohen's highest priority is low taxes, notwithstanding that we're not even seeking a position that would give us any power over such matters.

[Cohen backs down. He crosses his arms in a huff and scowls darkly at the prosecutor.]

[Phoenix warily speaks again, trying to defuse the hostile mood..]

Wouldn't the best way be to start with potential representatives putting their name in, and debating it another day? If we start listing off good and bad qualities we're going to come up with an ideal that just doesn't exist.

Politics are a dirty business. [He manages to not finish that sentence "children"]

Whoever we choose, is going to get their share of mud - that is the business. The trick is finding someone who can wear the mud well.

I have to admit I do not know of anyone off hand who would make a good candidate, [Himself aside and he was not, as of yet, interested. Not after Genosha.]

But I have not been here but a few months and I've rather buried myself in my work and my family. But my suggestion is for us to direct our attention at an office first and pick a candidate once we know what job we will need fulfilled.

Then we need to decide if we want to push more for the Newcomer Bureau of Affairs office, or if there are others that we wish to actively pursue. And if so, what offices those are, as Doctor Xavier has brought attention to.

To be honest, the health bureau is just about completely pointless, with lack of regulations. We hospitals coordinate most crisis situations ourselves, skipping the central administration completely.
