[Naruto's enthusiasm is expected, but the hug kind of surprises him. Shikamaru returns it awkwardly, patting Naruto on the shoulder, then turns to Nill as he's released.

There's a flash of anxiety when he looks at her, but he clears his mind quickly. This is it. Here's the real test.

As he raises his arm to return her embrace, his forefinger makes a quick gesture. It's a hand sign Itachi taught him, something most people would fail to notice. But it puts Nill under his genjutsu instantly.
